update Sept 3 The festival facebook has more results with the interesting exception of the MLE wing contest.
update Sept 2 The festival facebook has a larger picture of Joey holding the results sheet which appears to list Joey Chestnut’s weight as 6.02 pounds. This is well below the his winning total of 7.61 pounds two years ago which would make Sunday’s contest a non-record.
CW23 has an article and interview and with Michelle Lesco, confirming she got third place
Bufalo News reports that Joey’s weight was approximately 6 pounds, less than his winning total of 7.61 lbs. in 2012.

Joey Chestnut has been announced as the winner with 192 wings. This was claimed as a world record even though the contest had previously been judged by weight.

Could never figure why anyone would announce to the world it is their last contest. If you were born a comp eater you should remain one until the lord says no more. No sense at all making it out like its a baseball retirement

Whatever you do don’t try to read into what Sonya says on her site if she updates it. She will say Miki is a true legend and blah blah but behind the keypad she cannot stand her . I will assume that Miki asked the judge to weigh Sonya plate or her plate at least 3x before she was convinced that Sonya beat her. Bottom line is who really cares? Sonya did not beat Miki for a title . Until then it’s pointless

Why is the no retraction to the real 3rd place winner .how does a mistake like this happen.i thought I heard a comment about scientific checking on the weight and you don’t even count them all before announcing the top 5 on espn.?

They jumped the gun. The biggest names were assumed to be the top six, and they didn’t even check the rest before announcing the winners.

Who TRULY finished third? Was it Hendry?
How did Miki do in both contests this weekend? She was in Buffalo? Did she compete?

The smart people stayed home like Seiken Landrich Ostoff Eater X and more realizing no matter how hard they try its like trying to push a brick wall that wont move. The scales are fixed before the event and the trays are weighed and marked for specific eaters to do well no matter how fast the others clean their wings. Its been a known fact for years You think you ate more than what the scale reads only to be disappointed with results 1.5 or 2.2 or some crazy amount that certainly doesnt reflect the effort you put in . This explains why even some of the higher ranked eaters in MLE refrain from participating in this crap

Rankings, I think Sonya should be listed ahead of Bob because Bob didn’t bother doing Nathan’s this year. And what about Pablo?

I guess now Brian Subich will brag to everyone in his hometown that he finished ahead of Miki Sudo. The only reason Sudo had a double off day was because her thoughts are with her man and wedding plans they will be making very shortly

Regarding the wing totals, I can’t get over how close the wing counts were between placings 2 through 5. Any one of those people who placed in those spots could have finished in second. I think that’s a testament to increased talent levels of today’s competitive eaters, which, in turn, results from increased interest in CE from eaters nation-wide.
Unlike the early days (pre 2005), where most top eaters resided in the NYC area—-the hub of MLE—-today eaters come from all over. How many of today’s top 25 eaters reside in NYC?

I am not a fan of Miki Sudo matter fact we dont speak anymore but personal feelings towards someone and their eating ability are two different things. Its unfortunate that there are some that hate and because of that everything else about that individual comes along with the package eating, website journalism etc. You know what im getting at. Sudo is a very talented competitor . I doubt there are many in the sport that can beat her . Less than the five fingers on one hand. She had a bad day prob looking ahead to oysters or maybe she had other things on her mind. The slightest problem can impact someone performance at the table.
