Freaks like Joey bring in money, guys like Bill make eaters seem like everyday people. so let me get this straight 12:33 pm. You are making an excuse for seiken based on whom he competes against? Why should it matter who is at the table and who is not? Facts are facts and the numbers don’t lie. (except if count the mush on seikens plates when time expires toward his totals) His performances are typically sub par and dreadful. Chicken spedies in paticular where unknown eaters came within an eyelash of beating seiken. And thats almost every contest that he enters, there is always someone who is not ranked and unknow who steps up an defeats him. Check the numbers and results, to consider seiken a good eater is delusional.

Major league eating will never succeed unless more attention and media coverage is channeled to the rest of the circuit. Since Nathans is their bread and butter and basically puts them on the map, they would need to change the structure of the Nathans qualifiers. Implement a buy in of lets say $20 per person instead of registration through IFOCE. This way more people would have a chance to compete at the table and they could pay out maybe 3 or 4 places of prize money with the entry fee. $500 first place $300 second $100 third something like that . Wild card for each qualifier and each high wild card at the end of the circuit is placed in a money pool with the top 3 getting into the finals. Of course this would mean extended tables but it would also mean more money in the pot and more money to be spread around so everyone is happy. The way they have it now pays $0 to the wild card winner and the rest of the field goes home losers. Ok the winner gets a few bucks spending money before the finals they deserve more than that even though they made it to the big stage. As far as the rest of the yearly circuit, those contests need to be televised by ESPN or some other network in order to bring exposure . If that became the case which it never will, fans would be able to voice their opinion on other blogs beside eatfeats

When Shmelkin complained to the shoe fly pie sponsor in 2005 about Subich and Janus getting 1st and 2nd place prize money while Shmelkin got a road map of PA for finishing 3rd he complained to the sponsor while Rich Shea held the Vegas trip over his head. “Do you still want to go to Vegas?
