how does MLE get away with having eaters sign exclusivity contracts yet they have like 2 or 3 chili contests, 2 pork roll contests etc. slap in the face to sponsors and invalidates the whole “protecting our sponsors” arguments from the organization in regards to having eaters sign contracts. All it does is line the pockets of the Shea’s. Why wouldn’t the MLE want to actually be the umbrella of all competitive eaters? Its a shame how much of a role money plays.

@11:24 your argument makes no sense. I don’t understand why people are so outraged about signing a contract. With the amount of contests and money involved throughout the year it’s more than fair. Your going to have way more opportunities than you would doing local challenges or being with any other organization. MLE does the work of making the opportunities available for eaters. Companies and restaurants aren’t begging to hold competitive eating contests. If you don’t like the fact they are held all over the country and you have to take the risk or paying your way then don’t go. You say these things like you’ve seen MLE’s books and expect them to be a charity. The truth is your talking out your ass. The average prize money at MLE events is consistently higher than any other contest with only a few annual exceptions. No one is entitled to any money, if your upset you don’t win then actually try putting work in to get better or shut up and stop whining that you suck.

Josh you’re missing the point of the argument I presented but I see what you’re saying. I agree with what you’re saying though there is a lot of money.

    “stop whining that you suck”

    Like Josh does?

MLE only works for the top 10 or so. Outside of that, signing a contract is pointless because most of those will not see any money. Unless you want the “prestige” conferred upon by a ranking.

A competitive eating ranking ? Ha . That’s because they never been ranked anyplace else in their life

On the contrary 7:03: most competitive eaters are world champions in other fields. For example, Eater X has the record for the longest burp. Many are former valedictorians and Phi Beta Kappa. Nela and Mary are famous fashion models. Badlands is an expert hip hop artist. A few are champion weight loss artists. Many are world-class body builders and marathon runners. Some are close to becoming professional wrestlers. Dave is a top-notch boxer.

Others want to do Nathan’s or Wing Bowl because that is on their bucket lists.

@4:24 tell me what you know about MLE “working” for anyone. Like what you really know and not what rumors you’ve heard on this site or other people just trolling. You can not sign a contract and win nothing with other organizations or local events (except gift certificates) and maybe do 2 or 3 max a year. Or you can sign a contract and earn nothing as well but have 40 or more opportunities per year. It all depends on if it’s something you like to do. Its weird people come to this site and then troll competitive eaters for competing in eating competitons. Also, ranking doesn’t really mean much to us. It’s pretty arbitrary outside the top 5 or 10, it’s mostly for fun…like this entire sport is.

Josh, win nothing outside the league? What kind of world have you been living in? A lot of people are winning prizes (cash or valuables). Just look at the front page! No names are winning, and so are bigger names.

Do the 32oz bowls actually contain 32oz of chili, or is it like the “16oz” kale containers (volume)?

They are officially 32oz i give them that much. What does it matter? The prize money goes to the chosen few. The rest have no shot . Get to catch a glimpse of the white house and a free meal that’s about it
