A final Geoff/James match before Nathan’s would be a HUGE deal – if the general public actually cared about eating contests.
Geoff did 21 lbs of strawberry shortcake last year, and Carmen Cincotti holds the record at 22 lbs.
It is a very big deal, but not to this world.
Now that I’ve hyped them up, watch Pat or Nick win on the 4th. heh heh

MLE does not apparently care enough about this competition to post anything about it on https://x.com/eatingcontest 3 hours before the contest.

I am not on twitter/X, but they also have not posted any of the ranked leaders who may show at the CA qualifier here in another hour.
Would be great if they have some surprises for today and next Saturday, but I am not counting on it.

Do you know how many MLE contest winning amounts have been over 23 lbs, OJ?

@7:24 it’s difficult to say as many of the contests just go by units of food instead of weight. The only other contests I’ve seen above that weight is Smokes Poutine.

Joey won with >23 lbs in 2013, 2016, and 2019. The weighing seems wildly inconsistent for that contest as most years the winner has less than 20 lbs but somehow the record jumped to 28 lbs eaten in 2019. In both 2016 and 2019 the top 3 all cleared over 23 lbs.

There are also some buffet records above this amount https://eatfeats.com/sugawara-gains-25-lbs-at-a-buffet.html
    This includes liquid/drinking weight though.

Go back and look at results of Smokes Poutine contest in 2016 and 2019. Plenty of eaters had “reported” totals of 20+ pounds. I think most eaters know that these numbers are a bit inflated though (like 28 pounds in 8 minutes is not realistic …)

Wow… that is impressive, disgusting, & hilarious! I recall him mentioning he had a trading card. I just looked it up on ebay – and there was that salmon chowder stat featured prominently on back.
The contest video on youtube doesn’t show his side of the table.
