Juliet Lee just got screwed BIG TIME for a 2nd place finish with an alleged “official” count of 28 HDB.

Juliet doesnt even practice and this is her first time eating hot dogs and she ouddid sonya by 10 in sonyas debut so juliet deserves to be ranked ahead of sonya. Im afraid sonya is in the twilight of her eating career and I expect juliet to pound her into the ground on July 4th. Juliet is fresh young and appealing. Sonya is done so stick a fork in her.

From the info i recieved, Juliet started out with two plates and there was some discrepancy on her count early on .Problem was she was eating from two plates at the same time . This might have been confusing to the somewhat new Nathans judges. From my understanding you are not supposed to be given a second plate until you finish the first one. In the past that rule never applied but lately they have been trying to enforce it. She claims to have eaten 30 and the extra two dogs was not included in her total. I was not there so i am going by what i heard. I feel bad for her because she put up a very impressive number and she really deserves the victory. Take nothing away from Hall Hunt who has really come on strong in the past year.

I really think Juliet will eat close to 40 at Coney Island the way things are going. Hell she might eat 45-50. Yes Im done talking bad about her and Sonya because it gets me nowhere so the hell with it. I hope both of them just dont get embarrassed.

We have all been screwed over on speed or quantity and I hope this issue is resolved to everyone’s satisfaction. With the current price of video recording equipment we should be able to do away with this crap.
Juliet is a very sweet woman and talented eater and I’m sure any “steadfastly Christian eater” out there wishes the best for her.
BUT why all the hate for Sonia Thomas? She is the younger of the two eaters and is currently the best ranked female eater by far.Is it just the wish to see someone fall from greatness or a desire to manufacture a rivalry between two talented eaters because they are lumper together by misogenistic racists? Lets look at the contests accurately and let the numbers do the talking.

Congratulations, Hall, and excellent job, Juliet!
Why was Pat Bruss allowed to compete? He competed at the Wingfest in February, and in the AICE Meatball contest in March. If the rest of the AICE members were banned (Wing Tut, Carey), why is this guy allowed to compete?

A lot of people were gettin on me in the days when I got on Sonyas case but I think that was all for show because it seems sonya has almost no friends in competitive eating except fpr maybe coondog and he isnt even ifoce. Besides him who other than some anonymous figure comes to her rescue well not badlands, not rona, not rhonda, Pat, Janus, Chip, Brian, Rich, Joey, Hall, no one. Sonya is in this game by herself and on her own and has zero friends. Maybe she brought it all on herself but dont single me out anymore.

Luther, you really think Juliet will eat 40 at Coney? That’d be an awesome feat, but I’m not sure if that’ll happen. Coney is only three and a half weeks away and she “only” ate 28 today. She still has to win a qualifier to get there, or put up some big numbers in two more events to grab a wild card. I hope she makes it though. It’d be nice to see another woman on the stage.

I’m having a hard time figuring out how someone can miscount hot dog totals. Although, having never done it, I could be underestimating its difficulty. If you lose count, just count plates! Or, if all else fails, institute an post-game replay system by reviewing some video. With the money that’s on the line in some of these contests (except for Nathan’s), it’s only a matter of time before video tape is used to resolve judging disputes.

If you think it’s not difficult to count hot dogs, then appenently you either have rational sense, or you simply didn’t see what happened today. When a competitior hears an absurd number after the first two minutes, stops eating to make hand signals to the judges or anybody who will pay attention, (basically none) and then has to resume eating to catch up, you make the call. Conrats to Hall Hunt -apperently God invervened on his behalf today. Amazing how one can do an entire plate better than any previous effort without the power of prayer or devine judging.

I rest my case about Sonyas backers. They are all hot air baloons and I think sonya would do well to divest herself of all of them.

I think that the next poll should ask how many people would be willing to post on eatfeats using only one name, rank and serial number, a known identity. Newspapers only publish letters from people with a verifiable name and address. Names are withheld only in cases of perceived danger to the person writing. So unless you are in the witness protection program, and some would argue that some of posters on eatfeats should be, anonymous opinions are, in my opinion, cowardly. If you believe in something, say it and write your name and stand behind it, or say later that you were misinformed or that you have changed your mind. That is a dialogue whether with oneself or “members” of any community or society. That is a trait to be admired.

Publicly and again, here’s to the ladies, Juliet and Sonya, my friends. Well done!

Its obvious to me that Juliet is the best female eater of all time and she has already replaced sonya because of her outstanding first time perfoemance in hot dogs as sonya did not even come close in her first time at that food. Sonyas picture should come off of fhe hot dog hall of fame and it should be replaced with juliet holding up a sign with 28 on it.

Anonymous from 8:18pm, how can you say Juliet is already better than Sonya when she hasn’t even won a contest yet and hasn’t come close to eating to Sonya’s capacity? I’ll give you that she ate more dogs than Sonya did in her first time out, but it’s waaaaaay too early to make the call that she’s the “best female eater of all time.” Sonya has 57 first place finishes. Juliet has one (amateur pizza).

Anonymous made a fine prediction on Super Paul….unfortunetly, the other competitors showed up.
It was hotter than hell, which was ironic in the bible belt with Hall Hunt winning. There were like 5 eaters over 20 dogs, with the other half under 10.
SPBBB did at least beat his nephew, Ryan Honigman, who did 81/2 after staying out all night and did no preparation, the Charlotte newspaper columnist, Tom Sorenson, who became the first competitor to take notes during a competition, and five other sweaty men, including Shane Baker.
Juliet Lee did a great job, and more importantly, looked great in her cowboy hat and shades.
Hall Hunt showed why he’s made Coney Island 2 out of the last 3 years – his new style was very Chestnut-eske, and he remains undefeated in North Carolina competitons. The audience was enthusiastic, sun-burned, parched, and somehow stay-upright even though the pavement below them was melting their feet.

Thanks for all the kind words. I give God all the glory. I must congratulate everyone who was out there in North Carolina and put up some good numbers despite the heat. I heard Charlotte got up to 93 degrees about the time we were eating. Most likely it was hotter than that since we were eating on the black asphalt pavement in the parking lot at Concord Mills Mall. It was great practice for Coney Island having to deal with heat exhaustion and hunger at the same time.

I enjoyed getting to meet all the new faces of eaters I had not met yet. A few of them like Juliet, Tim, Juris, and Pat were killing me right off the start by a dog or two. I was very impressed by their initial speed. You can bet we will see at least one of them putting down some serious dogs next week in the A/C at Virginia. I think you know who she is.
Again, congrats to everyone. I will see you at Nathan’s final in Coney Island.

    P. Bruss is not banned b/c he won’t make a dent either at the table or in the “media” that is the internet. Carey and myself…. a different story.

Here’s the “problem” w/ the judging…. it happened to me in a local contest once…. when eating the buns and dogs separately, the schmoes from the audience who do the judging “forget” what the fuck they’re doing and just throw our a number that sounds reasonable…. what that 4 buns and 2 dogs, working on dogs 3 and 4, or was it 5 dogs and working on buns 4 and 5, heck, I’ll just call it five and 4 and start paying attention…. whooops, lost my place again… well, there’s 4 plates… so that makes 20… it can’t be 20… must’ve been an extra plate stuck together… what’s she trying to say? her mouth is so full… look at that guy over there… lets call it 18… 19…. dang it’s hot out here!!! Whoa. its over?? That guy’s big, he must’ve eaten more… but she was going pretty fast… what’d your guy do? Okay.

    BELIEVE THAT!

Hall won fair and square…I was right next to him and Juliet, doing my usual struggling, so I had a great view of what was going on. Rich Shea was keeping on the judges, making sure they kept the correct totals.

I laugh when I hear about Hall’s debris. He had a bun and 1/4 left on his plate, which of course means he had eaten 28 3/4 dogs. There was no other little pieces of food anywhere!!….How people who weren’t there somehow think they know what happened is ridiculous. Hall has made steady improvement in all the contests, is ranked way above anyone else that was there – why does everyone think he shouldn’t win??

Juliet is obviously a force to be reckoned with, and there were several up-and-coming eaters like Tim, Juris, Pat, Kevin all present. It was fun to meet and eat with all of them, despite my non-improvement on my totals, and the fact that it was about 100 degrees. It was another great gathering of some of the nicest and sweatiest eaters in the universe!!

And how Kevin Carr could wear a denim vest over his T-shirt on such a hot day shows his grit, wit, and total dedication to something. As I watch them all fly by me in the rankings, I am still thrilled everytime we all get together!!

    Stay Happy and Focused!!

Here, here Boy King! (Or is it “hear, hear”?)

Like I said, there’s a lot of money on the line in some of these contests and the judging has to be stepped up accordingly. For weighted foods, ALL eaters totals should be weighed AND WITNESSED by a third party. For counted foods, plates need to be MARKED and carefully tallied for each eater. The top eaters should also have judges assigned to them whose SOLE DUTY is to count each item that person stuffs into their face (they shouldn’t be fetching more food or refilling water cups). If they want to cover thier asses, they might consider video taping each contest (or at least the top four or five eaters).

  51. Anonymous said

    June 11, 2007 @ 11:40 am

People are abusing our trust by claiming controversy every week. There aren’t as many controversies as have been reported. Certain eaters are trying to cast doubt upon the results to hide the reality of their losing efforts. Give the judging a little more credit.

Hall my congrats is late but no less meaningful. I must say that I did not think you would eat as many as you did. But you did it. Super effort!

Juliet, you are exactly that, a force! It is almost unheard of for anyone to eat that many HDBs the first time. You will break 30 at the finals for sure and in a couple or three years you might be looking at 40.

Between you and Sonya I think you will eat 70 between you on July 4th.

  54. Rhonda Evans said

    June 11, 2007 @ 12:52 pm

Overall I think the judging is not bad, but the eaters take it more seriously than the judges. I think it’s because there aren’t enough judges. They’re human. Not robots, so a mistake might be made once in awhile. Additional people, coupled with suggestions like those of MM, can help minimize errors.
