Sonya will also compete in the Chicago jalapeno contest, where she expects to compete against Pat Bertoletti, Rich LeFevre and Erik Denmark.

Chron.com did a preview of the contest yesterday containing an interview with George Shea, who estimates the value of the publicity produced by Nathan’s contest at $100 million.

    Bob Shoudt is a far superior eater than sonya. The buffalo things were flukes. She has no business even being in the top 10. Top 10 in virginia maybe.

    Sonya Thomas did great. Pat and Joey know how to use food saturation techniques better than anyone in the world. That’s why the numbers are so high. Wait till Jalapenos tomorrow because it will be a firer contest with a more level playing field.

    By the way Anonomous in earlier posts, I know who you are and you know I know who you are. Not only do you suck pond water, I know who you are and you know I do.

    George is correct regarding the beginning of the IFOCE. I was there when it happened in 1997 . It was just publicity for Nathans and then four years later he officially got the ball rolling starting with ice cream. There was no prize money in the first couple of contests. In 97 there was only myself, Kevin, Badlands, Sliwa , Krachie and Devito. Sliwa was the big media draw because of the guardian angels and his radio show. They intended on making him a partner in the IFOCE but he stood them up at the initial meeting.

    Even in finishing fourth in the — what was that, the “Kolache” — contest, Sonya Thomas proved that she is extra special by beating most of the men, save three. That is indeed special for a sub 100-lbs woman.

    Yeah, Joey and Pat did great. But they both weight more than twice as much as Sonya Thomas. I think there’s an angle there. Sonya Thomas is the greatest competitive eater of all time, bar none. Catch her while you can, because her kind is few and far between my friends.

    She is very, very special (I will have Luther’s ass very soon, and he knows it!)

    im not sure who is ragging on Sonya,but you must be have a mangina,i just entered my very first contest in Houston and she was as sweet as could be,Sonya,Joey,Pat,Bob,Hunt,Jason and everyone was awesome,i couldnt have felt more at ease at my first event,(also the biggest eating event in a sports arena too)….anyone can talk smack on the internet,but why dont you nut up and challenge her to a put up or shut up eating contest,that would be cool,why you wanna pick on a sweet,105lb girl anyway,maybe you know you cant beat her at eating and it bugs you,maybe you have SonyaEnvy,if you really want to be a man then dont hide behind the Anonymous tag,youre probaly about 12 anyway with daddy,s computer and YouTube,later David “SyKoBOZO” Cagle…….p.s Thanks to Joey,Pat,Sonya,Bob,Hunt,Jason and the others,i ate like crap,but it was a blast,thanks
