AZCentral: Joey Chestnut to do Tempe qualifier
AZCentral.com has an interview with Joey Chestnut. Joey states he plans to compete in the Tempe, Arizona qualifier on June 2. He will practice for that event in the Los Angeles Dodgers All You Can Eat pavilion this weekend. Joey expresses confidence about his upcoming performances:
Meanwhile, Chestnut believes he’s prepared to shock the eating world.
“I’ve definitely been able to break the record in practice,” he said, adding that for competitive reasons he doesn’t want to say exactly how many hot dogs he has devoured.
“Unless I have a bad day, I’ll break the record.”
And he is convinced that Kobayashi is approaching his gastrointestinal zenith.
“Kobayashi is amazing, but he’s been at it about six years and he’s hovering at about the same amount,” he said. “I don’t know if he can go much higher. If I can get to 55 or 56 I have a chance to beat him.”

I feel bad for Rich. He has the worst luck when it comes to picking qualifiers. Who’d ever think a guy that can do 33 has a chance of not winning a qualifier after 2 tries. We should just give him an autobid for his greatness.

Even though Rich might not win a qualifier this year, he can still make it to Coney Island if he is one of the top preformers among the non-winners.

I don’t know if Rich is in the SF qualifier, but if he is he would have a good chance of winning that one. Assuming Joey wins in Arizona, Rich’s most likely competition would be Erik Denmark, Jed Donahue (maybe)… I don’t know who else is a serious eater on the west coast. Everyone else will probably be in the east coast competitions that day. Considering Rich lives in vegas, and was is vegas and is in arizona, san francisco seems like a likely third and final qualifier for him…

And pete aka “Philly Guy” what was your total in the philly qualifier? It hasnt’ been posted with the top six finishers so you must have been on the low end. Hopefully you at least got to half a deuce… also why continue to compete?

Joey’s right about that. But does he think his own capacity is greater? I strongly doubt it. Joey should feel humbled to even sit at the same table as Kobayashi. Koby has been through more wars and has more than earned the right to that Mustard Yellow Belt, and for another year.
And like I said last year, Koby is not flying 6,740 miles to get his keister (yes, that’s a real word; look it up) kicked on National television and in front of a live audience of 10,000+ It absolutely will not happen.
I am as sure of that as I am that Rhonda, Rona, O.J., and Sonya are each different people. If he has to eat 60 to win, Koby will do it. But he won’t have to.
Remember, you heard it from Rhonda Evans, right here on eatfeats.

If Kobayashi is not flying 6,740 miles to get his keister kicked, than he better be prepared to eat more than 60! And without the effluvia this year.

Hi Wyatt. I like your enthusiasm. I hope you’ve been doing well. Actually if Joey eats 59 or 60 I’d say he deserves it. big time!
