Rockford results reporting changed from opt-out to opt-in
At the request of Kevin Carr, I will not list any results from the Rockford Corner Bar unless I receive an email from an eater asking me to report his result (or he could just state his result in a comment.) I was originally going to list those results tonight unless someone emailed me today to not post his total. Thanks to Kevin Carr again for an excellent submission.
The Rockford Corner Bar has an online Hall of Fame, but no there are no links to it from the restaurant’s home page. All results are from 2003 and 2004 so it is apparently not being updated. No ranked IFOCE or AICE members are present in the online Hall of Fame. The highest amount is 20 chili dogs, reached by Kurt, Brian Johns, Nate McManus and Erin VanDeffelen
The Kittie Kobayashi
East Asia has not only produced the planet’s greatest human competitive eater, it has also produced the world’s greatest feline gurgitator. A cat in Qingdao, China eats 6 pounds of pork and chicken every day, about 20% of its body weight and a greater percentage of bodyweight than Kobayashi or Sonya have ever eaten in a contest. Unfortunately the cat does not share Kobayashi’s ability to consume massive quantities and remain at a normal weight. He (or she) weighs 33 pounds and has a larger waist measurement than Kobayashi’s at 31 inches.
Blizzard 1, giant hummus platter 0
This article in ynet news describes how the publicity garnered by Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest inspired efforts to create the worlds largest hummus platter. A circular trampoline was modified to serve as the platform for the hummus. Unfortunately, the record snowstorm in New York City last weekend thwarted the delivery of the ingredients for the hummus.

WatchMeEatAHotDog.com victim of Katrina
Chris Martel, who posts to watchmeeatahotdog.com, another blog focused on competitive eating, has been forced to evacuate Louisiana and is currently living in Memphis, TN. He is currently posting to http://neworleans.metblogs.com/ I hope he did not lose anyone close to him or his residence and can get back to something resembling normal life as quickly as possible.
Hurricane Katrina
I hope that everyone in the southern half of the central time zone came through Katrina as well as possible. It is hard to believe that damage was less than originally expected when seeing the all images of devastation.
Updated Aug 31 12:39 am If the first day was slightly better than expected, the second and subsequent days appear to be much much worse. My prayers go out to everyone affected by this catastrophe.
Here is a much happier instance of another force of nature visiting Louisiana from earlier this year.
One month site anniversary
It has been one month since this site was moved off of blogspot I am surprised that it has been able to obtain the audience it has with Google currently ranking it poorly. (It does not come up at all in the 293 results Google returns for “Sonya Thomas”.) Thanks for keeping the comments high quality and non-abusive. I hope to avoid requiring registration for commenting for as long as possible.
