Columnist opts for mock Joey Chestnut interview instead of real one

The Daily News Online has a preview of Sunday’s rib eating contest at Chinook Winds Casino in Oregon. The columnist, Rick S. Alvord, turned down an offer from the casino:

The fine folks at the casino told me to call them if I had a craving to interview Chestnut. Yeah, well, my career hasn’t deteriorated to that point yet, but thanks anyway.

For some reason, I think I already know what he’d say …

A mock Joey Chestnut interview follows. (Perhaps the real Joey Chestnut could have informed the author that the Wing Bowl does not take place at night)

That was some crappy reporting. What did they report? Nothing.

What a turd. He says “his career hasn’t deteriorated to that point yet.” He’s writing for a tiny little Washington state newspaper no one’s ever heard of (not the Daily News from NYC) with a circulation smaller than the crowd who watched the Nathan’s contest on Coney Island. Joey probably made more money last year eating ($60,000+) than this guy made in the last two years making up news stories.

Easy to call someone a turd that is an outsider and not someone you know personally in the sport

All publicity is good publicity – lousy article with one joke premise, but, we’ll take it

FYI: Rick Alvord is a student in my fourth grade class at Northlake Elementary School in Longview, WA. The Daily News Online is our class newspaper. Little Ricky is one of most ambitious and talented writers.
