I know MLE eaters are going to be in this, but I didnt see anywhere that says it’s an IFOCE contest. Does this mean that Pete,Kobayashi,Gilbert can also compete also?

The registration form says the entrance into the qualifiers is limited to citizens of the country where the qualifier is being held.

Actually, it looks like the maybe the rules changed. The first line of the agreement says “CP Biggest Eater Competition is open only to Singapore citizens and permanent residents of Singapore ”

    The no Kobayashi rule?

Australia and Singapore’s registration pages are up, but like some of you said above, it seems to only be open to citzens and permanent residents only.

Not sure why they would be marketing Joey on the front page if the two qualifiers that are accepting registration won’t even allow Joey to compete.

And yea, this would technically go against the Kobi contract that all ranked MLE eaters have to abide by. Just look at the other day when Stephanie Torres was knocked off for eating a burger at a non MLE sanctioned event. Even if MLE would allow Joey and company to compete, it really wouldn’t be helping their cause and it would show their distaste to eaters like Kobi and Torres who were knocked off because of a similar circumstance.

Unless you’re an MLE professional, you ain’t eating in this contest. Besides Joey already beat Kobi several years ago in this event. Maybe Kobi will try to enviously eat shrimp wonton’s down the street on the rooftop of the Phifth Bar in downtown Bangkok while the finales are going on with Joey and Sonya. Man, Kobi really blew it. There’s no one for him to eat against unless you’re MLE and that ain’t happening ever again. Kobi sure got what he wanted alright. He sure is independent. One more year of him eating against Pete and these other jokers, and soon he’ll be eating for busfare at events in downtown East Geesus against Boy Scout Troop Local #749. Meanwhile MLE eaters, most of whom Kobi is far superior to, are getting paid to be flown around the world. A few lessons for future eaters. Everyone is expendible. You are only considered as good as your competition (at least in the media’s eyes). Product loyality is what oils the competitive eating machine. So even if you don’t want to sign a MLE contract don’t go bouncing around from product to product for the quick payout and think long term.

Product loyalty?! Nascar is as loyal as the check is good. They run bare instead of honoring past sponsors. Which might bring them back. Tony Stewart has gone from Chevy to Toyota & back to Chevy. He also went from Subway (inappropriate unless they put him on the Jarred diet) to Burger King. I guarantee Joey would jump from Pepto to Pepcid if they gave him more money, or some money if Pepto dropped him. If Nathan’s gave Kobi a fair & reasonable sponsorship deal, i’m sure he’d eat nothing but Nathan’s. As it is, I don’t think he has made it known that he is eating any other tube shaped product. Quite the contrary actually. Don’t the Shea’s bounce from casino to casino and have about a half dozen rib eating contests?? Where’s the loyalty??

Until Joey, Kobi didn’t have any competition & the press didn’t seem to mind then. Do you really think Kobi isn’t being flown places, & paid for showing up? Is it possible Kobi has lost money by leaving MLE? Sure. Is he still making a living by eating? Absolutely. Freedom & peace of mind are certainly worth that, and probably much more.

Everyone has become expendable because when eaters had the power to make a difference they didn’t. Mostly because they were getting theirs at he time. By the time they weren’t happy, they lost most of the power they had. The MLE now has all the power and as long as corporations line up to give them ridiculous sums for an eating contest, they always will.

They fail to mention that the 7 eaters EXPECTED to compete were flown out to Singapore, Hong Kong or where ever with all expenses paid for. Why Conti is involved is the same old story. For those of you that are newbies on the scene, Conti been fed the silver spoon in his mouth since 2002. If a bone just happens to be thrown your way , trust me he will receive a bigger bone.

Anony 3:08, good points. But, Nascar drivers can’t bounce from product to product while under contract. Joey can’t do Pepcid or even consider them while under contract. Kobi proved and actually bragged that he doesn’t sign contracts so he’s a risk. Nathan’s will never allow him to compete because he’s done hot dogs. Making him appear as a risk to Hebrew National’s, etc. Pizza Hut won’t let him compete because he’s done pizza. Shea’s while under contract will not do another casino unless the casino they are under contract with permits it. Kobi’s is getting short term bennies and money for now. But the blow outs of his current competition will make the press lose interest and competitions will dry up and get increasingly smaller and smaller in terms of national recognition. In the early days, Kobi didn’t have competition but the Sheas’ would spin that he did and create interest (a la Sonya). Currently, the best eaters go MLE. That’s not an option for Kobi anymore. Being a poor product loyalty risk and without a professional public affairs organization backing you up to tell a story, not a good mix if your looking at a career as Kobi is. MLE provides negotiation protections for the eater, guaranteed product loyalty for the corporate sponsor, and media interest for all.

I don’t think Kobi ever said or even implied that he won’t sign a contract, just not the ridiculously restrictive one MLE put before him.

These MLE defenders are funny. There are more Indy eaters in the Top 20 Cash Winnings than MLE eaters, but obviously there’s no money in it.
