MLE first tweeted out that Weaver ate 50. They are a complete mess lately. There’s no real surveillance / attic counting of totals and accounting for debris at these contests.

I’d love to see the “aftermath” on the table where the 40 hotdogs were eaten

They also omitted Cherish Brown from the original results announcement and cropped her from the picture before declaring her co-winner.

I think this is the first MLE competition in the twitter era that did not receive at least one pre-contest tweet.

This has to be the saddest qualifier results in a long time. 40 for Weaver then next highest is 12?? What a joke. I guess 10 for the females is not too shabby, but really you’d think to get an invite to Coney you’d have to be in the ‘teens. 10 hot dogs is almost 1/5th of Miki Sudo’s highest hot dog count. Imagine a male qualifying with only 1/5th of Joey’s record total–aka, 15.2 hot dogs. That would be absurd. Need more competition both on the men and women’s side for these qualifiers.

Well, step right up then, 9:52. Waste your money going to a qualifier where you have zero chance of winning or eating enough to qualify for the wild card.

@3:06, I agree. I would have a decent chance of qualifying as one of wild cards, but the cost to travel to a qualifier and then having to sign a contract with MLE in order to do more events/Nathan’s July 4th contest makes it not worth it, in my opinion. Going to Coney would be fun, but I know I would place outside of top 5 among the men, so there’s not much in it for me personally. While it might not be on ESPN2, could probably find some other contest on July 4th and actually win money, even after considering any modest travel expenses.

The whole f*cking qualifier / invitational structure of the Nathan’s contest since the pandemic started has been a joke. It’s no wonder people have lost interest and nobody is showing up for the qualifiers.
The top eaters communicate and know which qualifiers to go to. The only way we will see someone new is if the expected top eater at a qualifier doesn’t make it to the contest in time.

I guess there isn’t much money and interest in it all, so they have no drive to get qualifiers going again.
