Interesting article. Some will jump immediately on the incorrect spelling of Joey Chestnutt (sic), and they should. First rule, get the name spelled correctly. Basics. The author, with all due respect, simply takes Nathans as a way to write about his firmly held opinions/convictions about what is in the title of the article. Writing from the outside in applies here. Nevertheless, it is interesting to read and ups the ante here on paying attention.

Yep, spelling is so basic that misspellings can destroy a writer’s credibility. It sends the message to the reader that if the author doesn’t think enough of his own article to even bother taking 10 seconds to look up the correct spelling about one of the main people he’s writing about, then why should I, the reader, invest several minutes digesting it? Yet, this happens all the time.
It also signifies how well know Kobayashi is, and that relatively few people identify with Joey Chestnut, even after six successive Nathan’s titles!
At least the author didn’t mistaken Joey for Joie Chitwood, the former racecar driver (e.g. Paul Page’s reference to Joey during the 2010 ESPN broadcast).
