Hall Hunt post-Charlotte interview
Liz has posted to truefan an interview with Hall Hunt after he qualified for the Nathan’s finals by winning the Concord Mills qualifier. Hall explains why he did not underestimate Juliet Lee:
Woman, man…if you can eat, you can eat. I felt very comfortable eating up there. This maybe a bit of a tangent, but it reminded me of a time in college when I was dating this one girl who was a big eater herself. She and I after getting a good workout at the gym would rent a good movie, buy a couple large containers of food from the local wholesale grocery store and see who could eat more. I must admit that one time she beat me. That was the only time I ever lost to anyone in an eating contest before I joined the MLE and it was to a woman. Ever since then I have never underestimated females.
Paul Barlow has contributed two pictures from the contest. One picture shows Hall Hunt shoving a hot dog at the end to provide the winning margin.

Paging Kevin C. and Juris!
What were your numbers for the competition? I want to make sure the FE score card is correct.

The fact that Hunt was able to shove that last hot dog down proves the difference between a rookie and a veteran. Sonya Thomas would not have let her opponent get that last second edge. This is not a knock on Juliet Lee’s great performance, but it will take her some time to learn to apply that killer instinct in the last few seconds of a contest especially if it appears to be very close.

Kevin you got that right, and Sonya’s killer instinct will be on the prowl on July 4th. All those people who have discounted her doing 40 HDBs will eat thir normal diet of hot dogs, buns, and words (as Sonya has already indicated-I believe her.).
And yeah, she can’t beat ALL the men anymore. But look how good the guys are these days. Sonya is still improving just like they are, and her totals in most foods go up every year, with few exceptions.
Also, Juliet will likely continue to improve for the next couple of years. Pound for pound those two girls (as was Carlene LeFevre) are simply better than the men. They shouldn’t be but they are, and I hope both Juliet and Sonya (and Carlene) take pride in that.
If any male eater points at that as a rationalization, then he’s not thinking right and needs to visit the Cave Man’s therapist. (And if his mother calls, put her on speaker!)
