CONGRATULATIONS to you Rich!! Today you were on fire! Sorry, Jed there’s a new Jalapeno King in town! The Locust proves once again that he is one of the baddest American eaters ever… We definitely have to celebrate your World Record Breaking Championship performance when you get back home.

Thanks, El Toro. I’m glad someone noticed that there was another contest yesterday besides the Perry Krystal qualifier. Had it not been for the Jalapeno contest, I would have been there instead to vastly improve on my mark of 38 of two years ago as I, like Tim, do not like going into the finals as a wild card. In any case, I wouldn’t trade my win over two great eaters in a Major League contest for a regional win in Krystals.

WTF?!? Someone tell me how in the hell the top three did over 200!?! They obviously do not bite the jalapeno, just shove them down their gullet stem and all. I am guessing but Eric bites stem off, but now way the other guys did. Don’t the judges count by stems? Or is it plates? A jalapeno eating contest should be about the heat but i doubt 1 thru 3 had to put up with jalapeno juice..

In the Dallas News article, Rich says the peppers were a lot smaller than the ones used in the New Mexico contest in August.

i think they should be able to swallow them whole if they want to. i mean seriously, u know as soon as u bite into one it is going to be hot so why not just swallow them whole to avoid the heat. i say it is just smart strategy and erik the red was swallowing his too he just doesnt have the capacity that rich pat and sonya do.

My hat goes off to rich for an amazing performance. I am still in awe of that performace. He didn’t slow down the whole time, as he said it, there’s still some fight left in him. The peppers were smaller and much softer than in NM. A good job done by sonya and erik as well. Krystal finals should be a battle.

    Rhonda,

I agree with you. Rich should be able to eat at least 51 Krystals. Oops, he already did!
