Courant.com has an article about Bear's Smokehouse in Windsor, CT reporting that a diner who can eat more of an item on the menu than owner Jamie McDonald can will receive a prize of $1,000.

I’d like to see about a dozen major league eaters form a pact and take turns at these challenges and take him off his self absorbed cloud.

I would say only chestnut, stonie, and x could do it and maybe miki

I think Jamie is one of the smarter eaters. Unlike some people who sit on here and troll because they either have no life or truly suck at eating so you come on here to hack every post. Pretty pathetic really. Jamie worked hard and used his winnings for a dream of his. Sad thing is he will be raking in the $$ and you will still be on here bitching. Way to go Jamie 🙂

Miki is fast but her capacity is lacking compared to eater x, Stonie , and chestnut. In the future maybe but right now i Dont think so. Jamie did beat out pat Bertoletti recently. Every time Miki wins its usually a technical food. I’m not trying to down play her. She is an amazing eater but not at the top tier of capacity eaters yet

Kobayashi, Stonie, and Chestnut are probably the only few that are capable of eating more than Jamie McDonald.

Anon 238, I want to point out some facts you probably are not aware of. In 2003, Sonya debuted in competitive eating with 18 hot dogs in 12 minutes at a Nathans qualifier; then did 25 in the finals. In 2005, Joey debuted by eating 21 and a half hot dogs and a Nathan’s qualifier in Daly City; then did 32 in the finals. it took Tim and Bob over a year before they could break 20. Through hard work and extensive training, Joey was able to greatly increases capacity over the next year. Tim, Pat and Bob (among others) followed Joey’s lead and were greatly rewarded for their efforts. Miki qualified in her very first IFOCE contest by doing 40 in 10 minutes, nearly matching Koby’s debut performance in 2001 of 50 in 12 minutes. It’s obvious that Miki can reach much higher levels. It all comes down to how great she wants to be.

931, aka Brian, the answer is none. Bertoletti and Reeves checked the can thoroughly and found nothing but a couple of paper napkins I had used to wipe my face after the contest. You have no credibility at all as you get off by spreading lies and innuendos to get attention. You are a toxic waste of a human being.

Locust and Sonya have earned respect forever. Many eaters have been with MLE or other organizations and then changed what they wanted to do with competitive eating. Jamie McDonald took his talent and turned it into dreams become reality. He will continue to take all of the skills and he possesses to make his business a success. Brian continues to “distinguish” himself but not in any way which could ever earn him any respect.

Actually, I will agree with Brian on this one. Rich, I don’t think Brian wrote that comment with which you took issue. The writing style is not his (the “Hmmm?” especially), even though it’s his style to write nasty things.

Starting off at such a high level, usually, but not always, results in improvement—-case in point: Dr. Chip Simpson, who, in either his first or second year downed 40 HDBs, never to reach that level again. I think it was in Florida when he ate 40. OJ could probably validate that via the eatfeats DB. I would, but I’m on flexeril, and have no energy whatsoever.

Chip Simpson ate 38 hot dogs in his first Nathan’s contest, 39.5 in his second qualifier

Thanks, OJ. For some reason I thought it was 40 (must be the flexeril I’m on). I guess the 40 was my expectation of what he would achieve in the finals, which never came to pass.

Adrian Morgan and Bob shoudt are better eaters than Jaime as well. If he were in MLE he would be ranked somewhere between 6- 10

I use to be with MLE and have eaten against mcdonald a few times. I happen to think that McDonald would conistantly lose to most of the top 6 eaters. Mikki , Joey , Adrian , Shoudt , Stonie and X. Some eaters outside the top 10 could probably beat him like ostoff and Butler depending on the food. Having eaten against most of these eaters mentioned I would rank him at about 7 if he joined MLE in my opinion mcdonald has more speed than capacity.

That was years ago when Shoudt beat Chestnut. Shoudt will show just how “great” he is in Ireland when he gets slaughtered by an uranked eater. If he eats half as much as that Irish dude I will be surprised.

Funny that some of you to this day fail to give Shoudt his just due. I remember allen Goldstein after the 2005 title rally after he lost to shoudt by one penne pasta noodle. He kept bitching to the wife during the drive home about losing to Bob Shoudt of all people repeating the same line over and over.Heh heh . How could i lose to Shoudt? It sort of reminded me of martin scorcese in taxi driver when he played a passenger in the back of the cab asking Deniro . You think im sick right? You think im sick right?, You can tell me . You think im sick Hmm?

Shoudt is a great eater. Maybe one of the problems with him is that he doesn’t have the personality of a Pat. Joey didn’t need a great personality or to give great interviews because he topped Kobayashi. That will always be his legacy and he did it for years in hotdogs and is still hotdog king. Bob eats and he competes very well. But he is bland. It may seem silly but that is the way it is. So yes, within the top five or even the top ten and more, some have beaten higher ranked or far higher ranked. But in the end it is people’s idea of an eater, not always the win loss column and by how much that determines what people think. CE has many aspects. It isn’t only your eating ability.

Kobayashi and Sonya have charisma. I think that the fact that Kobi doesn’t speak English may well add to his charm and mystique. Same for Sonya, though she does speak English, as well as Korean, and some Japanese, I think. Also, their track record speaks for them. Besides that, Kobi and Sonya are seen as very warm and fan friendly, and sponsors are attracted to that. Joey is a great eater, even if he bores you to sleep, but not the legend that is Kobi. Nothing he can do can change that. It is what it is.

As far as Shoudt, he is a top eater but not a great eater. He, like Joey, is a bore, but even more so. If Wayne Norbitz did not agree, his image would be on the Wall in Coney. As for Pat, I guess I missed his personality. He is not boring, only because he’s so easy to pick out, as the one with the red liquid all over him and anyone standing next to him.
