Joey Chestnut wins Reno Ribs

The Reno Gazette Journal has a report on last night’s rib eating competition listing the top four finishers:

1st: Joey Chestnut, $2,500, 4.5 lbs. of ribs
2nd: Pat Bertoletti, $1,500, 4 lbs.
3rd: Rich LeFevre, $750, 3.8 lbs.
4th: Jed Donahue, $250, 3.3 lbs.

Updated 3:57 pm IFOCE.com has full results. It is interesting they are noting Joey’s 6 month non-Kobayashi winning streak when no attention at all was paid to Sonya’s 7 month (Wing Bowl to Buffalo Wing Festival) streak last year.

Joey, Pat, Rich, and Chip are practically unstoppable right now. If any of these guys decide to go to the tamale contest saturday Eater X will have his work cut out for him.

Very close between Rich and Pat and Jed wasn’t too far behind. Looking at the numbers those RIBS MUST have been tough/chewy or the number would have been higher. Or maybe Joey was just holding back. I mean why put extra needless calories in your gut when you’ve already got the thing won?! Good showing chaps!

Joey is really riding a nice winning streak. I just hope that when he does get beaten by another American, people won’t say he’s going downhill or anything like that because he’s human — GREAT but human.

He should easily win the Waffle contest too, since Sonya probably won’t attend. So they should just have Joey’s check ready when he arrives. The rest can fight over 2d, 3rd, and 4th.

How does El Toro manage to rank so high. He has a character that he lives up to, I understand that part, but he consistently gets whipped in every contest he enters. There are usually people that I have never even heard of that place above him. Just curious, not meaning to pick on anyone.

…Take it from me, sometimes it’s not how much you eat, but how you look when you eat it!! El Toro adds lots of fun to every event he’s in, and I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t be ranked if I didn’t make an effort to make sure everybody has a good time when I compete!!
….plus, the rankings are not just based on individual event showings, but a cumulative year-long total in some cases….In other words, the “rankers”, can rank the “rankees” based on whatever basis they want…..Thank Goodness, and I still can’t wait to be in the same event as The Bull!!

Rhonda, from my belief, I heard from an eater that the ribs were pretty much sauceless, so that had to contribute to the amount consumed becasue Joey has eaten 6lbs and 8lbs in other rib events. Maybe they were dry too. There can be a lot factors involved. Just look at the #’s for the sausage sandwichs, they didn’t put up a large # but the picture of these things looked like a lot of work if you loos at humblebob.com he has a few pics up. Those things had to be tough and kind of dry-like.

Rhonda must know that the ribs were tough to eat becase joey would have won regardless.
