Juliet Lee to appear in Food Network documentary
Juliet Lee has updated her WriteNow page with news from her trip to the Nathan’s finals where she received the 2008 IFOCE Rookie of the Year award. She also announced that she finished recording a documentary being produced by the Food Network.
The pictures above are from valjean615’s flickr gallery from the Nathan’s finals, which includes pictures of all competitors entrances (Arturo Rios also removed his shirt like Juris Shibayama) along with the Rookie of the Year ceremony. Patrick Vandam and Juris Shibayama were apparently the other finalists for that award.

In baseball, you can be eligible for the Rookie of the Year award even if you played in the previous season, so long as your playing time was limited to a certain number of at bats, innings pitched, or days on the roster. Since she broke onto the circuit right before the finals last year, maybe they’re using the same rationale.

I was more than a bit fuzzy on the rules for ROTY also. I still am. If she eats in a very limited number of contests this year, can she win again next year?
Where does this leave Juris and PVD, as far as having such an opportunity next year?
Can Badlands win ROTY next year, since there is no comeback eater of the year award?
These may sound like stupid questions, but until I/we know the rules, they merit being asked.

They’ve gotta be somewhere. Whether they’re written down, or just in someone’s thoughts, or whether they’re subjective or objective. The decision had to be based on something.

Juliet will probably move up to # 3 when they change the rankings again. She should topple Kobyashi and Joey and be # 1 by the end of the year, and just think shes but a rookie, the greatest rookie ever.

The ROTY rules were explained to me, as I didn’t understand them either. Your “official” rookie year starts with your first Nathan’s finals debut, and ends the following July 4. So, as it has been explained to me, I am actually eligible to win ROTY next year, as my “year” officially started on July 4, 2008, with my debut performance. I don’t make the rules. This is just what I was told.

So if the rookie of the year starts with your first Nathan’s finals, how are you in the running for rookie of the year before you compete in your first Nathan’s finals?
