Congratulation to everyone for some amazing performances. The top three eaters beat their previous records by an amazing 28, 29 and 28 burgers. All eaters living someplace besides Northern Virginia at least tied his or her previous best. Kobayashi led most of the contest, but Joey was on his heels the entire way. For KSO IV, they should have signboards with three digits, at least for Kobayashi and Joey.
I am curious what happened with Sonya. She was in the 3rd position after a minute and a half with 22 and a significant gap between 4th, but she seemed to hit a wall at that point and fell out of the top five after three minutes so I am not sure what happened to her after that point.
I hope we do not have to wait seven months to see Kobayashi challenge the top American eaters. Kobayashi at the Wing Bowl would be an interesting possibility, but I assume he would want a more objectively judged contest with better crowd control.

Pat is not only an awesome eater but one super human being. He is only 20 or 21 and i knw people in their 40’s 50’s and even 60’s that dont hold a candle to his maturity and great personality

Wow, those numbers are absolutely incredible, huge congratulations to all the participants. The percentage improvements are like an Olympian turning in a 3-minute mile. I can’t even imagine being able to bring my hands up to my mouth that many times in eight minutes! Does anyone know if a video is available online for a deprived foreigner who didn’t get to see it?

Thanks for posting all of this info.
I would suggest that you should not get caught up in the posted numbers. I know that I finished my first tray (20) in 1 minute and Pat was right behind me at about 18 – 18 1/2 at the one minute mark. I went through 30 for sure at the two minute mark with Pat most likely even by that point.
The speed at which every one is going makes it very tough to get the numbers posted in real time.

Bob, you were awesome. I was so happy for and proud of all of the eaters. The numbers were simply unbelievable.

Bob is correct in that those numbers were never accurate in the first few minutes. He was at least 10 ahead of me after one minute and he wasn’t even listed! At no point was I even close to being in the top five and was pretty much chugging along at the same pace all the way through. I also find it extremely hard to believe that Sonya only ate 2 Krystals between 1:30 and 2:30 and there are many other obvious discrepancies along the way..

The Krystal finalists inspire me. There was a group of us eaters including Wild Bill Meyers and the Erbivore watching the finals on a small TV in a bar at the Arizona fair just before it was time for us to eat. Although, I must admit that Kobayashi and Joey almost frightened me with how staggering those numbers were. 97 and 91? You have got to be shitting me? Well, it just means we (eaters) can’t be happy with where we are at now, no one.
Pat’s performance of 76 was simply awesome – he has stepped up big on ESPN this year and I know he exceeded his expectations. Humble Bob also finishing 4th this year again but with 65 was huge – nice work Bob. Also, Arturo Rios’ 44 was pretty sick too – he has pretty amazing speed and he is a likeable performer on TV as well. Eater X’s face while working out and the curious fake blood/mummy walk entrance was pretty hilarious – I am not sure everyone watching gets X’s humor but who cares it’s probably better that way.
A couple of programming notes – ESPN and the announcer’s had the helmet cam’s mixed up, they were showing Arturo Rios and talking about him and labeled him as Justin Mih and visa versa – that is weak, really if you are going to use the helmet cam don’t mess it up and disrespect the eaters like that. On a positive note, it was good to see some eaters, I think it was Jarvis and Sonya, in a commercial for Axid antacid during the live showing of the contest – Maybe they (Axid) are a big potential future contest sponsor.
