The new poll asks how many Nathan’s qualifiers an eater should be allowed to enter a year. There are only about 200 qualifier slots for about 300 million North Americans. One alternative would be to drop qualifiers altogether and give invitations to the top ranked 15-20 eaters.

I’m sure Keiji Oguni would get screwed if we switched to the no qualifier alternative. Some of the finest eaters in history made their first big mark at Nathan’s.
