The new poll asks how many women do you think will qualify for the women's division of the Nathan's finals. Three women (Sonya Thomas, Juliet Lee and Larelle Marie Mele) exceeded the 10 HDB threshold last year needed to qualify.

This is going to sound very random, but a female coworker at an old job was capable of eating more than 10 hot dogs in 10 minutes… we had one of these vendor carts outside… it’s a long stupid story…. if all the potential women eaters come out of the wood-works, we could see a great battle for the women’s division.
Stephanie Torres, I would predict she should be good for at least 20-25, maybe more… and we’ve seen what Juliet and Sonya have done in years past. Larell Marie has done 14. I bet she’ll do even more this time around.

I thnk S. Torres can do 20-25, but that is just a guess. Maybe she can do only 15 or maybe she can do 40.

Cardboard shell. or whatever her name is, is from Phoenix I believe, Tempe is right in her own back yard, she’d be good for at least 10-14 I would think.

Do you honestly think its a piece of cake for an unknown female to step up to the plate and eat 10 hot dogs? Not as easy as it sounds. There arent many Larell, Juliets and Stephanies around. If so they would have been there all these years. Majority of women dont eat for speed . They can put away a ton of food during the day but thats a different story. There is a technique involved in hot dog eating that not many women can boast about. The Sheas and Mike will find it to be a very tough task getting females from the crowd to get up on stage with the big boys. Just wait and see

Joey Chestnut has two sisters. If they put their genetics to work they will easily qualify.

For the record, it’s an estimate based on past competition. Torres once did 14 hdbs in 5 minutes in a no-dunk contest. She’s also established ridiculous numbers in restaurant challenges, along the lines of what Matt Stonie and Ben Monson have done in the past. I would be surprised if she put down less than 20 hdbs.

I think a lot of people are simply tired of sonya getting so much attention for so long that they just live to see her to dusted. If she sticks around long enough she will get beat by another female, no dobt.

Hot dogs cannot be compared to other food categories. Its the hardest food to take down because of the nitrates, sodium and fat. After a certain amt it becomes tasteless and disgusting. You will enjoy the first 7 or 8 then the horrible taste begins to take its toll on you and you hit the wall. . Table enders will find that out much earlier than others.

It all depends on how many women actually try to qualify. The 10 hdbs mark is quite easy to break, male or female. It’s not like the average girl will break it but almost anyone with the slightest interest in competitive eating could do it.

FTR, 10+ HDB is an easy amount to eat for anyone. I did 13.5 HDB in 10 minutes in my very first hot dog contest, and also did 6 HDB in 5 minutes in another contest without water.

Opps! That should have said “without dunking allowed”.

I disagree with this, from my own experience. I happily ate 13.5 HDB, and could have eaten at least another 15-20 more easily if time hadn’t run out. What was hard for me was the wet soggy buns after the first 7 HDB or so. Water makes them go down more easily, but it also allows them to come back up more easily too, so you have to be careful. I also prefer ketchup, mustard, and pickle relish on my hot dogs to enhance the eating experience.
Also, I know at least 3 or 4 other amateur girls from California who could do 10+ HDB easily.

I was there at that contest! If she did 14 HDB in 5 minutes without dunking, I bet she could easily do 30+ in 10 minutes with dunking.

Anon 5:11 – Thx for the mention. I think you’re right; I’ve been at qualifiers where unknown males have not eaten 10+HDBs, never mind the females 🙂 NReda – Yes, I’m certainly hopeful that I’ll get more this year; my personal best last year was 15.5!!!! I am so excited to see what Stephanie Torres does; I have a feeling that her #s are going to be absolutely mind-boggling!!!!

this isnt the 1980’s. 3 or 4 girls can break 20. i think it will be a full field with 10 or so interested girls breaking 10 hdbs. i just have no idea how many womens quals there will be or if they just take the top women from the regular quals. not all dogs are the same and not all buns either. someone mentioned sodium nitrate. cheap store dogs probably make you stop sooner.

Ok Stephanie put your money where your mouth is and enter the Nathans contest. You have the advantage of not having to deal with sonya and juliet considering your geographical location. With that said its pretty much a no brainer that after all your bitching about the sheas its a good bet that you will be going to Coney Island on the 4th of july

LOL you previously said IFOCE would never accept my registration given my criticism of the organization; now you tell me to “put [my] money where [my] mouth is”. LOL.

Stephanie maybe you have me confused with someone else. I never said anyting about IFOCE not accepting your registration. They could care less about what you said about them. I doubt they know who you are or what you said and even if they did i doubt very much it would play a part in deciding whether you would be allowed into the contest. GO for it
