The MLE facebook announces that new rankings will be released before Memorial Day. Matt Stonie and Stephanie Torres will almost certainly be the highest ranked new male and female in the new top 50. The new polls ask where you think they should be ranked.

    Has anyone found out anything about the China Nathans Qualifier that was supposed to happen yesterday? Kind of funny that there has been absolutely no information released about it.

    I’d enter Matt at about # 12. After another three or four contests I’m sure he’ll move into the top 10, easily.

    I’d place Stephanie about # 16, though that too will likely prove to be too low after more contest experience.

    She may well be as good as Juliet right now, which is quite a testimony to her talent/potential.

    They haven’t updated in a long time, but to do it before all the Nathan’s qualifiers are in the bag is an interesting move. I could see them doing it before the Nathan’s finals simply for table placement purposes.

    Oh well, at least this gives them a week and a half to at put some thought into the rankings, as apposed to the last time where it looks like they but little to no effort in.

    Biggest Jumps SHOULD be Osthoff (he’s prolly the most underated right now of the top 50) and Larell Marie jumps to mid 20’s mainly based on her qualifying to Nathan’s…

    Biggest Drops Monson and Philbin both due to inactivity…

    Keeler (Retirement from IFOCE) and Marquez (inactivety and doing indy wing bowl event) will most likely be removed from the top 50…

    There, I think that’s a fair assesment, took me a whole 15mins to put together, your move IFOCE…

    matt has 2 ifoce contests and has only lost to number 1 and 2. he has beaten Morgan, Denmark, maybe others . Therefore it might make sense to start him in the top 10 and adjust from there. I could be wrong, especially if they feel that more contests should reflect a higher ranking.

    Kinda hard to determin after only 2 contests for Stonie but if you had to judge talent as of right now, there is a huge cluster fuck of equally talented eater between Tim Brown, Denmark, Lee, Gordon, Booker, Collins, Morgan and Stonie. So Stonie can be as high as say 7 or as low as 15,16…

    If marketing comes into play, as we all know it does. Stonie is what 5’5″ if he’s an inch, 120lbs soaking wet, fresh of his 18th birthday and Asian (at least Asian looking) to boot… Kind of a Koby (when he first came on the scene) lite don’t you think? I can see him being ranked in the top ten based on talent plus marketability.

    well i think Stonie should be in the top 10 too, but we all know that the IFOCE rankings are total horseshit after the top 10 anyway – how can Monson stay in the top 10 and he isnt even competing, like i said horseshit.

    Sonya hasn’t beaten Joey, Pat, Bob or Tim at all since the last time MLE ranked everybody. She is something like 0 for 10.

    Yeah, right. Part of the trouble is that Sonya is not selective about what contests she goes to. She runs from no competitor, regardless of the food. On the other hand, when is the last time you saw those Joey, Pat, Bob, or Tim at any of her specialty contests like Oysters, Clams, or Crawfish. And even though she’s not the best at Jalapenos, Joey, Bob, and Tim don’t go to that either, because they will tell you that there’s no chance for second money with Sonya there.

    Anyway, here’s the top 10 the way I see it:

    1. Joey (of course)
    2. Pat (much distance separating him from the third spot)
    3. Tim
    4. Bob or Sonya
    5. Bob or Sonya
    6. Tim Brown
    7. Erik Denmark
    8. Sean Gordon
    9. Adrian Morgan
    10. Ben Monson

    No chance for second place in jalapenos??? Are you kidding? Sonya got killed this year — KILLED! — because they imposed a rule that had the effect of forcing her to eat each pepper in its entirety instead of, as in previous years, allowing her to make a big, juicy, pulpy mess.

    Bottom line: Sonya didn’t beat a single one of the those guys. That’s bad. She is way overranked. Also, Rhonda, she no-showed at boneless wings and salt potatoes, where, doubtless, she would have lost twice more. So your claim that she runs from no one is utter crap.

    I agree. Sonya is not even one of the top 10 in jalapeno peppers and there are also about 10 people who are better than her in chicken wings. She should retire. She is awful. Juliet is much better.

    What is with the awake all nighters trashing Sonya? Silly and sleepless, just because Rhonda isn’t here on weekends? Way too much conspiracy theories here too. Eaters have schedules and jobs and cannot always eat at contests. Makes sense to me but then I am writing it.

    I agree with Stallion and also who else besides Pat can devour 200+ jalapenos in eight minutes. If Sonya got “killed” in jalapenos this year, then all others would have lost their souls to boot.
