With that debut Ben has already proved to me that he should debut about number 4.

Erik probably had a bad day………it’s only one contest. He’ll fizzle out at some point

Maybe #4 is not too far off since between now and when the IFOCE updates the rankings he may have shown it.

Are you saying you think Erik will fizzle out at some point?

I wouldnt necessarily say I had a bad day. It was pretty close between the top 4 for the whole contestI ended up a plate further back then I thought. Ben is clearly a good eater already he proved that today and I got nothing bad to say about a competitor, I can totally respect people who are legit and still want to beat them. Bob and Hall pulled it out and they are off to grits and I am off to Nashville, good luck to all thank god I made my flight.

These rankings need to be changed. Since July 4 Bob and Sonya have been the best two eaters in the IFOCE!

Wow just got back from a 1600 some odd mile round trip all for 10 mins of pure fun! I was very excited to find that Bob, Hall, Erik, and Ryan were all very cordial and easy pleasant to speak to. I’ve seen many areas where I can notably make vast improvement over a very short period of time and hope to have a another opportunity in the near future to show those changes and learn more about my self in conjunction with competitive eating. Thank you all for the support and comments I’m eager to hear anything you have to say in regards to this venue or future events and appreciate any remarks being positive or negative they still hold validity for my personal assessment.

Ben you did great being the fact it was your first IFOCE contest and you were close to guys like Bob and Hall who have more experience in the “circuit” and you see Bob is an having impressing performance lately so you should be proud of what you did, again as I said on other post, it is good to see new people competing and winning, it is very interesting for the sport. Congratulations to all of you guys.

You were so close dogg! Bob has been in hundreds of contests over the years along with Hall. You have an extremely bright future with MLE! Train hard with gatorade! Continue to work up your capacity until your pushing three to four gallons in two minutes. Keep salt nearby and hold it in until your body rejects all those gallons to protect your stomach from blowing up. That is what it takes to be a champion in the sport of competitive eating . Trust me that’s the real deal right there and if anyone tells you different their lying through their teeth.

You’re absolutely correct Ben. OJ does a fantastic job on this site, and watch out for anyone who states differently, because that person likely (in this case definitely) has some issues he needs to deal with. Watch yout back with that person, and keep on doing the good things you’re doing in these contests.

Awesome debut, Ben. I was beginning to wonder if CE would see another talent the likes of Pat and Joey, and although you have some work to do to reach their level, I think you can do it. Looking forward to seeing more.

Sadly, Juiced Con is right about what it takes to be a top five eater. I’m surprised to see someone put it out here in exact details for all to see. Nothing has happened yet, but it is scary to know that you have to endanger your body like that before a contest. We don’t make enough money, or get enough fame to make it worth risking ruining your health.
If you don’t have a “freakish metabolism”, please don’t start the water training. Just go to the contest, do your best, and have fun. A lot of eaters do pretty good just by running or finding a hobby like weight lifting to build up that speedy digestive system. This is a lot safer than blowing up your stomach.
Outside of our top three eaters, nobody’s making more than, or anywhere close to, $50,000 a year doing this stuff. Outside of Kobayashi and Joey, and Sonya, not many people have a clue as to who we are. Even they are referred to as “the Japanese guy”, ” that kid from the US that finally beat the Japanese guy”and that “little Chinese lady”. Some people know the dude with the face paint (Eater X), but, for the most part, that’s it!! It’s crazy to drink three or four gallons of water, and “hold it in”. Keep up that regiment, and you’ll only become famous for dying like an idiot.
Ben seems like the next great eater, and hopefully, he won’t have to resort to becoming the next great water drinker.

It’s not water you drink its Gatorade. Electrolytes are key to remaining safe. Throw extra salt in for added measure. It all supposed to come out anyway. The more you do it the more your body and mind gets used to enduring the tortuous pain associated with this type of training. Remember we all have the gift of free will in this life. Use it as YOU wish…

I have to disagree a bit with you Danger. Joey and Koby have more name recognition than you give them credit for. I go to a lot of contests at local fairs and while some people still call them “that Japanese guy” and “that US guy”, more and more are saying “Kobayashi” and “Joey Chestnut.”

Gatorade, water, beer, whatever, – you mention getting used to the “torture pain assocaited with this type of training”. I don’t remember the saying being “No Torture, No Gain”. It’s dangerous, and not worth it in my book. But, yes, anybody is free to do what they want. I question why they would do it…

Mega Munch, ok, their names are being known more, but that’s still twoor three people out of the entire spectrum of competitive eaters. Worth risking your body for a possible random fan knowing who you are, or a $100 purse for a fourth or fifth place finish? again, not worth it in my book. I can almost understand pro baseball, football, etc doing steroids or other stuff for millions of dollars – but, our prize money ain’t enough USUALLY to cover travel expenses. Nuff Said!

While I don’t do exactly what you’ve mentioned Con I do stretch my stomach with usually around 5 pounds of vegetables then drink 1-2 gallons of water w/ Gatorade mixed in to maintain electrolytic balance. I have to also mention that I have been doing this or something similar for almost 1 year not for enhancing my ability to consume quantity’s of food but rather satiate hunger pains when dieting. I’ve never experienced hyponatremia because i closely regulate my dietary intake of sodium and potassium. Although from a medical standpoint this is very dangerous for someone who doesn’t know what they are doing or the signs of water intoxication. Luckily I have a full time Nurse on hand who has a PhD. (my mother) and I myself have an extensive knowledge of human Physiology and Anatomy because my major is Dietary Nutrition.

water intoxication is for bitches. the laster person anyone knows of who got side and died of that crap was some woman that drank one one liter of water to fast and died. how freak of an accident was that? hell if you can not drink a gallon of water without dying you should not be doing CE anyhow. the water training sounds like bad news though. your body will reject something if you have to much in it also.

Ben it’s a bit of a shame that you were not in the IFOCE prior to the Krystal qualifiers Seeing what I do, I think you had a better than 50-50 shot of making the Krystal finals. Anyway, next year you may well win one of the qualifiers.

I hope so Rhonda and i will try my hardest to be present at the finals. I do on the other hand plan on attending Nathan’s if at all possible and don’t see how it wouldn’t happen given my current abilities and the time I have available to train.

P.S. there have been numerous cases of athletes experiencing irregular palpitations and even hart attack dues to water intoxication and hyponatremia. Although these events are in congruence with extreme physical exertion the danger is still present none the less.
