Joey – Time for you to start “ribbing” those who doubt you when you don’t dunk!!

Congratulations to Joey on a convincing, well deserved win. I know I often unfairly berate him, but the fact is that he is thus far the greatest American eater in history.
Though I still consider Koby to have a “Power Rating” of, let’s say, 100, I would say that as we speak, other American eaters’ “Power Ratings” would be as follows:
Koby: 100
Joey: 97 (up from a 94 a year ago)
Pat: 95 (up from 89 a year ago)
Sonya: 91 (up from 89 a year ago)
Eater X: 88 (up from 84 a year ago)
The above method is the best way I can put things in perspective. To further put things in perspective, let’s look back to 2004, before Joey and Pat were in the ranks. The gap between America’s top eaters and Koby would be as follows:
Koby: 100
Sonya Thomas: 88
Cookie Jarvis: 85
Badlands Booker: 84
Rich LeFevre: 82
As such, the top American eaters are markedly closing the gap on Koby, whose greatness and dominance in any sports-related event thus far is unprecedented.

Good job Joe. Awesome to hear about Rich’s lost tooth (not because I wish him pain and suffering, but because it’s freakin’ cool and he’s hardcore, so it couldn’t have happened to a better man).
Rhonda, I like your power rankings concept. It’s a good way to measure how eaters improve from year to year, but also a good way to compare eaters from different generations. I wonder if there’s a way to make the ratings more scientific?

It’s not a matter of doubting Joey. He’s awesome … Nooo doubt. And so is Pat Bertoletti, who is coming on like a freight train. But as great as those two are, they are no Kobayashi!

Hey MM! As you have already surmized, the PR numbers I put up are (my) opinion only and are totally unscientific. But … I also think that’s the way to go, and I do think it would be worth developing criteria that drive the PR values to make them scientific and more meaningful.
It would be a lot of wise, thoughtful work at first, but once the standards are in place, it would just be a matter of updating the PRs at a regular frequency, like monthly.

I think the important question is, did he find the tooth or did it mysteriously disappear?

Rhonda, Bravo! Once again you have a terrible idea. Power Rankings? They would never work. Other people have tried to make the rankings scientific, and they have always failed. Why would yours be any different? How many points would you assign someone for, let’s say, living in Virginia? 10? 20? 90?

Anonymous from 11:14, perhaps reincarnation can become (if it isn’t already) retroactive, so that you can return to the days when logic dictated that Earth was the center of the solar system. That’s where you belong, no doubt.

I don’t get it. The IFOCE can’t even put up results for their own contest (at least as of 11:30 A.M. EST). No wonder there are so few devoted CE fans (as compared to other types of sports entertainment). How can fans keep up with it?

Rhonda, you used the word “retroactive” improperly. I know what you’re trying to say, but you still used it improperly. It isn’t wise to try to be smart. You end up looking stupid.
Here’s the thing. There are some things science cannot improve upon. Read this article from Tuesday’s NY Times. http://www.nytimes.com/2007/08/28/science/28conv.html?_r=1&oref=slogin

Anonymous, then why do you insist on doing that — look stupid? I know; you can’t help it. You’re a natural.
Okay, I’m done addressing “anonymous posts;” that makes me look as stupid as you/them! On second thought, no it doesn’t.

I did. You miss the point altogether. I’m not wasting my time with your agenda.
I’m done responding to all anonymous posts. I plead guilty of wasting other readers’ limited, valuable time, and I apologize to O.J., and all the serious visitors for even engaging in such childish, moronic exchanges. I know I’m bigger than that, and in all honesty, you probably are too.

Can we all agree not to bicker about each other’s proper or improper use of the English language (perceived or otherwise). This is EAT FEATS, not GRAMMAR FEATS.
Rhonda, you are DEAD ON about the IFOCE’s apathy toward posting results and how it takes its toll on the fan base. In today’s day and age of up-to-the-SECOND results via the internet, modern sports fans expect way more than the IFOCE is willing to deliver. They should take a note from the good folks at Krystal and look into text message results. And that’s just for starters.

Mega i have to disagree. Improper use of the english language is as much of a turnoff as bad breath. People that have never learned to master the english language and spell like a 4th grader, look like total fools when the words are in caps or misspelled. One can come off as a bumbling idiot to say the least. Look at Sonya’s or Juliet’s website. Perfect grammar and english to a science. Their sites should be a role model for the moronic that never took the time out to go to school .

I feel ya BB (I write for a living). All I’m saying is, these are just comments on a blog. Not much different than a casual conversation. The last thing I want is for someone to hold back on offering their opinion because they’re worried about their subject/verb agreement.

Looking at the Krystal Fantasy League I see one OLD MAN named Super Paul is listed as one of the TOP EATERS. #2 to Sonya Thomas. This weekend I’ll do my best to knock him back in his rocking chair.
Just returned to Georgia from Jacksonville tonight. Getting a lay of the land and taking in a good Jacksonville football game. Getting those competitve juices flowing. Some friends of mine with the Police are meeting this weekend to test me with a doughnut eating contest. Being a hosehead has its advantages.
I love you Paul. Our battle of the over 50 year olds continues. Good luck in Atlanta. If I do not duece at least I want 17.

This is a forum to discuss ideas not worry about grammar, syntax and vocabulary. I have pretty well developed grammar skills, yet I make typos and occasionally post something with poor syntax. We all do. Does that make anyone’s point less valid? So long as it is understandable, let it be.

Thanks for your comments MM. You know, it’s like you affirmed. I WANT to follow CE just as I do baseball, football, and sometimes even wrestling, as fake as that is. (I get into the scripts.) The reason I feel that the IFOCE doesn’t cover CE as well as they should is because deep within they don’t take it seriously themselves. That sounds ridiculous, I know, but that’s what I believe.
Yeah, tactically, tongue-in-cheek-wise they do, like when they emcee contests and such. But strategically, they don’t. Yet, ironically, if they did timelier, more dedicated, more strategic marketing / coverage of their eaters and events, they would make more money. More fans/followers = more money.
If I’m a horse racing fan, I sure as hell don’t want to hear about the entrants and results for the Kentucky Derby the first SUNDAY in May. I want my results — NOW!
Because there are so few followers, the upside growth potential is practically exponential, as compared to a widely covered/followed sport. There’s so much room for growth, but not without more proactivity by the FED.

Typo mistakes are similar to someone accidently spitting while talking to you, or letting out a drop of gas when they didnt really mean to or possibly having a slight odor from their mouth. I would be curious to find out if any of these things i just mentioned can be controlled? Also, would you consider leaving your spouse if any of these incidents happen to occur?
