Yes, I confirmed she did pass away with her family. Please, no fighting or disrespect on this thread. I miss her truly, as she was a dear friend of mine. She always found the good in things and helped me through the hard times. She was too young.

So sad to hear this news. I’m sad to lose someone in my life that was so kind and freely embraced everyone around her. I remember very clearly when I saw her at a contest and we hadn’t seen each other in awhile and she gave me the longest, genuine hug. I am sad that I slowly lost touch with her. We stayed in touch on Facebook every once in awhile, but I’m still very sad. Not just personally sad, but sad that I wasn’t a better friend to Stephanie in the last couple of years. I’m confused by the idea of posting on Stephanie’s Facebook page, but I had to post this somewhere. I desperately want to believe that Stephanie is seeing and feeling the outpour of grief and loss, and also all the thank you notes of how special she was to all the people in her life. It doesn’t seem fair to me that life ends so easily, so soon. I’m sorry I didn’t have a chance to say goodbye, Stephanie but I hope you see this or feel my thoughts. Goodbye friend, and maybe we’ll feast together again.

    This really got me yesterday.

She really was a free spirit in the best sense. I loved her stories of riding the bus to some middle of nowhere challenge and just crushing it by herself. no photos, no video.

I always respected her for making her own mind up about what she was going to do with her eating and laughing at the idea that someone could tell her when and where to eat.

Miss you, kid. There’ll be some scorpions, ghosts and 7-pots eaten in your honor and the tears won’t just be from the Capsaicin.

I am sorry for her death. It is too much. Another one lost who didn’t have to be. Free spirit yes that is a romantic way to put it. This type of tragedy just happens over and over. She was an extreme girl and also let everyone know she was deeply troubled. I heard it many times. But the ability to help herself and overcome her impulses was her responsibility and everyone who feels guilty needs to let that go off their conscience. She was an adult and she knew right from wrong and she knew what she had to do to get better and she didn’t want to. No one was able to rescue her because in the end she chose this. I feel so sorry for her family. They really loved her. As nice as she was she hurt a lot of people over these years who cared about her more than she cared about them or herself. She was into being tragic and sweet and abused and hurt but still “rising above”. She got a lot of attention that way and so many people got sucked in and then were so sick of it or hurt by it. The side of her that was a wonderful, patient, kind and accepting soul is not the side that killed her but it is always the side I will remember and love most but I refuse to forget the entirety and delude myself that a saint has died.

Terrible that a spineless jerk had to make a comment like that above at 4:04. If you felt slighted by her in any way, this isn’t the time to present your hatred. Her friends and those that did get her come here to air out their pain. Don’t mourn but please do go away. Nobody is perfect. She was a sweet girl and did more good then bad.

To RIP Steph – i know exactly what you mean. Steph and I got along in spades whenever we hung out. But I never got close with her. Part of it my fault, part of it because it was difficult to get a beat on her personality. I wished it would have been different.

Some show their true colors when they won’t even acknowledge her passing on twitter pages. Bertoletti for one Toro another . Edible Really guys you knew her at one time in your life . Show some compassion

  40. anonymous said

    October 2, 2015 @ 10:27 am

In her defense, Maria Edible did post on Steph’s page from her facebook account a few days ago. But, yes 8:36, there are others, whom I am not going to name.

Steph did have some people she truly did not like and vice-versa. She had some people who talked trash about her behind her back, but were nice to her in person (you think they would be her closest friends from the outside); and she knew who they were, as word gets around quickly in this small community. For those people to suddenly post condolences on her facebook page or their twitter feeds would be the ultimate in hypocrisy IMO.

  41. anonymous said

    October 2, 2015 @ 10:48 am

Sorry about the Edible remark . Must of misread . On another note there were some that Stephanie despised yet those same individuals were quick to send their condolences as opposed to some she did not despise who posted nothing

  42. anonymous said

    October 2, 2015 @ 10:52 am

Not hypocrisy. If someone Stephanie did not like attended her funeral would you still refer to them as hypocrite? I think you are being quite cruel It’s about paying respect

  43. anonymous said

    October 2, 2015 @ 10:55 am

The true colors are within the IFOCE. Ok Barklay was not around when Stephanie got tossed . Antolini took the responsibility of pink slipping her because of the disguise but still it came from direct order via George . Trust me word gets around they visit this site They keep taps on everything and they know about Stephanie demise

  44. ColorMeReal said

    October 2, 2015 @ 11:31 am

A stupid 140 character social media post has nothing to do with compassion. Compassion is something you should have shown while she was alive, if you’re so concerned. All you’re talking about is self aggrandizement – “Oh look at me, how caring I am!”

Get real – a young woman wins $1000 eating on Saturday then winds up dead a few days later. What do think happened? Plane crash? ISIS? Alien abduction? No, it’s pretty obvious what happened here. The time for help and compassion has unfortunately passed, and all the twitter in the world won’t change that. A twitter message is easy, and only requires a minute of your time. Helping someone who needs it, when they need it, takes a little more effort. I feel for the people close to her that probably tried, but came up short. Those are the people who really knew compassion.

  45. anonymous said

    October 2, 2015 @ 11:57 am

ColorMeReal: It is not obvious what happened. Please do not spread rumors. Those that are close to her know otherwise.

  46. anonymous said

    October 2, 2015 @ 12:02 pm

Color me real, the red flags were there for the past few yrs or possibly longer but in the real world ending your life on your terms usually happens in the movies . A Scott Bickle tragedy only comes around once in a lifetime. Think again!

  47. Anonymous said

    October 2, 2015 @ 12:03 pm

Pretty obvious what happened here? So then what happened here if you know so much? Explain it to us.

  48. anonymous said

    October 2, 2015 @ 12:11 pm

I think the message was sent that comp eating as a whole alot deeper than just having fun. Competitive eating is symptomatic of underlying issues . The fun part is just a mask . Think about it

  49. anonymous said

    October 2, 2015 @ 12:20 pm

What is obvious here is that her death is something the family would rather not discuss . If she died of a heart attack or aneurysm it would have come out immediately . We are not dealing with TMZ who is not afraid to report the unabashed truth

On an off topic relating to death the east coast has far worse problems with a potential category 4 hurricane headed it’s way . The possibility of 911 type casualties looms heavy . Sandy was only a 1 and Katrina was 5 and both were ignored by many

There is something called an autopsy 12:20. It takes time. Believe what you want but the compassionate people in this world aren’t concerned with how right now. It happened and that is a shame, period! If we learn later then so be it. Once a jerk always a jerk.

I’m sure there are people not commenting on social media because they did not like her, but whether or not you post a stupid message online is NOT the measuring stick of someone’s sympathy or grief.
Everyone grieves in their own way. Not everyone thinks displaying it for the world to see makes it legit.

  63. anonymous said

    October 4, 2015 @ 10:53 am

When you treat people accordingly , there is no reason for them not to like you or post anything negative about you. Lets put it this way she was no saint . Think twice before you eulogize someone with “She was kind giving and wonderful to everyone ” A better response would be “From a personal standpoint she was kind giving and wonderful to me and certain individuals close to her” Sounds a whole lot better doesn’t it?

I don’t know the deal with Toro but when she flew into Vegas to compete in Nathans qualifier for the first time, Toro rolled out the red carpet for her and let her crash in his posh pad. She did not stay very long and in her defense i was told she felt terrible about it . I believe they remained friends after and hung out during future visits to Vegas. Not sure what transpired recently but Toro is not big on twitter memorials for the deceased or maybe he has no time cause he is busy with important matters
