Sept 1 expected entrants

From a Rhonda Evans comment

At 1:00 P.M (C.S.T). on Saturday will be the World Tamale Eating Championship. The total purse is $3,000. “Eater X” will defend his title. Other entrants will include Rich LeFevre (may the tooth be in him), Marco Marquez, Pat Bruss, and Wild Bill Myers.

At 2:00 P.M. on Saturday will be the BBQ Sandwich Eating Championship. The total purse is $5,000. Expected to participate are Joey Chestnutt, Pat Bertoletti, Hall Hunt, Juliet Lee and Arturo Rios.

At 6:00 P.M. on Saturday will be the annual Buffalo Wing Championship from Dunn Tire Park, Buffalo, NY. I’m certain that Chip Simpson, the defending champ from last year will be there, and I would imagine that Sonya Thomas will be there also, since she has been present every year. I would also expect “Humble” Bob to attend if he doesn’t do BBQ Sandwiches. That should be a really good matchup between Chip and Sonya. Both have two or more wins apiece in chicken wings. (Sonya won the event in 2004.) The total purse is $2,550.

The assumption that Chip and Sonya will be in Buffalo is correct according to this press release

Rhonda it is nice that you take the time out to promote IFOCE events on this site. They must have gotten the message because i just recieved an email that gave a recap of all the upcoming events on the MLE roster. What is quite irritating is when certain names are mentioned as headliners and other eaters names that are competing are deliberate left out. It gives one the impression that certain members are not as important as others.

I know (no pun intended) what you’re saying and I can empathize with you. The way to make them start taking notice and refrain from leaving some of the names out is to kick it at the table.

Look at Pat Bertoletti. Two years ago he was # 40. Now he is a staunch rival of the # 1-ranked eater in the world. I love Pat’s example because he is proof that with steadfast, dedicated effort, eater scan improve — some by leaps and bounds.

Never, ever, throw in that white towel. Dye it red if you have to, but just keep the fire of desire burning (as Kenny Loggins once proclaimed).

We are at the beggining of several great rivalries:
Hall & Julliet – Hall’s win over Julliet in Hotdogs will inspire her to new heights. Two very nice people, but dont stand between them and a plate of victory. They will compete twice against each other.

Joey & Pat – Pat continues to creep in on Joey’s territory. Joey probably stopped sharing his TripRewards Points with him after Pats last Rib victory. These two may fight it out over years.

but I think the most interesting contest this weekend will be the two in Buffalo. Sonya, Bob & Chip are closely matched eaters and this weekend may help decide who truly is the best. The absence of Pat & Joey leaves a true victory on the table for whomever wants it the most. A win in both events would be definative.

I wish Tim were in this one too, but Tamales are Tamales.

Good Luck to All the Eaters and be safe traveling!

Good points SB, and I agree with you about those rivalries, especially the Hall – Juliet one and the Pat-Joey one.

In Buffalo I see Sonya and Chip having a real battle to the bone in wings with Bob close behind. But in the buffet bit, should Sonya attend, I see her winning without too much difficulty (unless Joey or Pat shows up).

I too wish Tim the best in Tamales.
