C’mon you guys and gals. You know that I have always been a Sonya fan, but the anonymous comments are rather ridiculous. Sonya is proud to be an American, she speaks English fluently and without hesitation, smiles and laughs and gave a great interview and eating performance. She has an accent and doesn’t always speak absolutely grammatically correct English. That applies to a ton of English native speakers. Boring she is not, rather she is charming and talented. And, as she said, while she has never beat Takeru Kobayashi, whose name, by the way, she pronounced perfectly in Japanese, she has beaten “others” who may now be ranked higher. I will not even get into spelling here…….Please. Let’s get real.

From a personal standpoint i dont think sonya cares one way or another how she is percieved in the public eye with regard to her grammar skills. When it involves her eating that is when she takes it personal. Go figure!

Nor do you seem to care about your grammar skills. Do you have eating skills worth caring about? I suspect not.

Why do people try to prtect the princess? She has always been given anything she wants. She can come late and the contest will be put on hold until she is ready, the length of a contest has been changed just to accomidate the princess, even had her bread buttered during a grilled cheese contest because her bread was stail.GIVE ME A BREAK

I don’t think she’s doing too bad. She’s fluent in Korean and English —- regardless of the accent or spoken sentence structure —- and speaks some Japanese. We native Americans often have a tough time mastering English, let alone learning other languages.
I think she has brought quite a bit to the proverbial competitive eating table. Talent aside, perhaps what I enjoy most about her is her zest for the “sport” and her ultracompetitive nature.
Had Sonya never forayed into eating competitively, I suspect the talent you see today would not be at the level it is.
