Hey DaGarbageDisposal, what do you think of Steve Hendry coming all the way from California to Syracuse to win the qualifier? You thought it was strange Eric Denmark flew in from Seattle to St. Louis. This is even farther. I wish Nathan’s would be more equitable with the distribution of their qualifiers.

Anon said
June 3, 2017 @ 10:48 pm
If you win a qualifier with enough hot dogs, does Nathan’s pay all of your travel expenses, like taxi, flight, subway, hotel, local transportation, etc.?
What about meals and a cash travel allowance?
Do you get your own hotel room, or do you have to share?
How many nights will they pay for?
Will Nathan’s prepare your dunking/drinking water to your specifications (temperature and type)?
Does all the swag they give you fit in your suitcase for your flight home?
Is there more than one after-party to choose from, like at Wing Bowl?

Why should MLE pay for your dental work, unless your teeth were damaged during a contest? There is a strong likelihood the teeth were damaged from repeated reversing (stomach acid severely erodes tooth enamel, thus weakening the teeth). Does MLE make anyone reverse?

I had a rough day and night last night. I read the following article last night before going to bed, which caused me nightmares
https://www.washingtonpost.com/national/health-science/evidence-grows-linking-grilled-meat-and-cancer-but-you-can-lower-the-risk/2017/06/02/f946078c-4549-11e7-a196-a1bb629f64cb_story.html?utm_term=.fe91b19271c3
“Evidence grows linking grilled meat and cancer, but you can lower the risk”
Specifically:
“When cooked at high temperatures or over open flames, according to accumulating evidence, compounds in red and processed meats undergo biochemical reactions that produce carcinogenic compounds capable of altering the eater’s DNA. Most of the research has been conducted in lab dishes and in animals. But some emerging evidence is starting to connect the dots to human risks of cancer, too.”
I dreamed I had an incurable rare disease and only a few weeks to live.
I had been looking forward to eating hot dogs and training, but now I am worried. Should I stop being a competitive eater?
anonymous said
June 4, 2017 @ 10:56 pm
Dental insurance is $85 ? What era are you living in ? The 40’s? How hot dogs relates to teeth erosion should be least of you worries. The evidence with regard to red meat points to cancer and other deadly disease and most competitive eaters are well aware of the consequences but they love to eat meat the same way a drug addict is addicted to heroine or someone addicted to nicotine. They refuse to stop because they enjoy it and no commercial or media advertisement will stop them. Tv ads are swarmed with anti smoking commercials depicting young men and women with tubes inserted in their adams apple taking their last breath . With that said its still not convincing enough for people to stop smoking. Somewhere down the line you will see a commercial depicting a former competitive eater wearing a Nathans t-shirt with tubes running up their nostril on a life support machine in intensive care gasping their final breath ” I did it for the love of the sport”

anonymous 10:56: this comment from the article above made me feel better about hot dogs:
“To claim that cancer is caused by eating cooked meat to a point where it is browned, crisp or otherwise is totally foolish. Mankind has cooked their meats for millennia and cancer itself has grown at disproportionate measures no matter. “

June 3rd 10:32PM, I am brand new with this MLE and E and all this talk, I just want to have a good time and compete. If that is the rules and they are okay with it I accept it. In time I thank I will sign a contract. I just started heavy into challenges about 6 or so months ago and I push myself to beat what I have done before. I try to set records not only to top someone’s time but most importantly to prove to myself that I can. It drives me more and more when people don’t have faith in me so I welcome all the negative comments. You can say what you want about me but check out some of my YouTube videos I started to make and I rest my case. Just did one today actually. Oh and the name is Brandon Clark (without an e but I have been called way worse). I did set a record at the cookie competition with 26 3oz cookies in St Charles MO but they didn’t post that one, I will live though lol. Thank you for your time and all the help I receive on here. BTW if anyone wants to try the Big Don in Rockford IL I can go this week or next week on any week day but Fridays. I ate my half in under 30 minutes, just need a partner. Good Night

To respond to the dental insurance crowd, having insurance for $85 (or any other sum) doesn’t mean you won’t have other expenses related to your teeth care. Fillings, crowns, false teeth, cleanings, root canals and what have you still cost something. A single visit with serious issues can run into the hundreds (and thousands) easily. It’s better than doing it without insurance, but it’s definitely not gonna happen for $85 flat.

I have a question. Please answer me.
In the videos of Michelle above:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=611-3WrhGQQ
at 2:05, Michelle eats a hot dog in 3 bites, without chewing any of the four pieces. She just swallows them and is done in just 2 seconds or so.
But from what I have read, the average diameter of the esophagus is 1.5 to 2 cm at rest, which is at most, 3/4 of an inch. That is less than the diameter of most hot dogs. I understand when swallowing, the esophagus becomes larger, but I can’t imagine there is much clearance for the hot dog. How can new competitive eaters try to swallow a bite of a hot dog if they fear choking? I won’t do it because I don’t want to risk my life. If they do end up choking, by the time EMT’s arrive, it will be too late, and the Heimlich Maneuver is not guaranteed to work, any only if people are there. Nate Figueroa said he was nervous practicing hot dogs alone in his video. Is there any way you can practice eating hot dogs at an ER? Or can you be intubated with a (semi-permanent) tube prior to practicing?
I need help. I don’t know what to do. If I tired and did it, I would no longer be scared, but the consequence if I try and fail is potential death.

anonymous 7:05pm. sorry, I called you an idiot because it’s my way of saying be safe. Didn’t mean to be a jerk. Please be safe. You don’t have to practice alone. Find someone to practice with. Or better, just use contests that have EMTs as your way of practicing. Don’t do challenges or contests that don’t have EMTs, EVER. Ask other eaters questions about how they get better. Not every training technique the eaters need someone to be there. Like eat pounds of high water fruits like watermelon, slowly. Or cabbage. Build up your capacity then try again. Be fit. Exercise. That helps alot. Look at all those top eaters, they are in good shape. Keep asking questions. And most importantly, stay safe. You wouldn’t drive a car without knowing how to drive or without a seatbelt. Stay safe.

To you an the other poster who asked about training, check out Randy Santel’s training tips, which are really good, probably the best out there. Walruses used to work at bakeries back in the 19th century. They were notorious for failing to do anything productive. They ate all the product they made. Pure gluttony. They became huge and were fired from coaching those under them for their miserable performance. Missing product over time led to lying about sizes of products in consumable goods. Ultimately this also led to restaurant challenges. 4 lb challenges were equivalent to 8 lb challenges. This was almost crappily passed off by using stupid camera angles and flexing. Peeps couldn’t save the walruses. They imploded. It was disgusting. See! It all comes full circle!
