Berenice Baker request for anecdotes
Berenice (Brazen) Baker has sent me the following request:
I’m a UK-based journalist and I’m planning an article that I hope will
promote a very positive image of competitive eating and also appeal to
people who wouldn’t normally read about the sport. I’d be very grateful if
you could put the word out on EatFeats for people to email me their
experiences.Scheduled for the early months of 2007 when people might be slipping away
from their New Year’s resolutions, I want to talk about how people can
recover from overeating and return to healthy habits without feeling that
they’ve irretrievably fallen off the wagon. Who better than competitive
eaters to give advice about recovering from overindulgence?
Heeb Magazine on Jewish competitive eaters
(From BB Bits & Pieces) Heeb Magazine has an article on gastrointestinal afflictions more common in Jews than in the general population. The first part of the article is about Jews in competitive eating with quotes from Brian Seiken, Don Lerman and Kevin Lipsitz. There are some minor inaccuracies in the article. (Isn’t Shredder Goldstein a top 20 ranked Jewish IFOCE member?)
Slashfood thread about “Chubby Bunny” fatality
(Thanks Brian Seiken) Slashfood has a post with currently 100 comments about the death in the “Chubby Bunny” marshmallow stuffing contest in Canada last week.

The London (Ontario, Canada) Free Press reports that a woman who was in critical condition after choking on a marshmallow at the Western fair died. The woman was participating in a contest in which the objective was to stuff as many marshmallows as possible into one’s mouth and then say the words “Chubby bunny” The woman’s family did not release her name.
Updated 1:56 am The Globe and Mail has a long article about the death which includes the woman’s name. The “Chubby Bunny” game killed a 12 year old schoolgirl in Illinois in 1999.
Canadian woman in critical condition after mouth stuffing contest
The London (Ontario, CA) Free Press reports that an unnamed woman is in critical condition after choking at a mouth stuffing contest at the Western Fair. The objective of the contest was to stuff as many marshmellows as possible at one time into one’s mouth. Paramedics were apparently not present during the contest and had to be called in. This is the second tragic incident at a Canadian contest; a man died in a wing eating contest in Regina in 2004.
