"Snack" Jack Diamond qualified for Wing Bowl 21 today by eating 16 bunless hot dogs in 2 minutes. Stacy "Eatorama" McCarthy and "Iceman" qualified on Thursday. Alexis failed her stunt of eating 100 tater tots in 3 minutes this morning, but received an invitation to the in-studio Wing Off.
Dave Brunelli & Dave Goldstein tie in first Wing Bowl 21 Wing Off
Philly.com reports that Dave “Tiger Wings & Things” Brunelli and Dave “US Male” Goldstein tied in this morning Wing Off held at PJ Whelihan’s in Cherry Hill, NJ and will both receive a spot in Wing Bowl 21 on February 1. Tickets will go on sale on December 11 for $10.
Wing Bowl 21 will have a two tier system. In the first tier, three time champion Jon Squibb will face off against winners of five qualifiers to be held around the country. Other Philadelphia area residents will compete in the second tier to win a Nissan Pathfinder. The person with the overall highest total will win $20,000.
Wing Bowl 21 rules released – first Wing Off Wednesday
The official announcement for Wing Bowl 21 will take place Monday, but contest rules have already been posted containing information on how to qualify for the finals in Philadelphia on Feburary 1, 2013:
- The majority of finalists will qualify by successfully completing an in-studio stunt. (Stunt submission form)
- Five first round Wing Offs will be held at Philadelphia area PJ Whelihan’s. The first Wing Off will take place November 28 in Cherry Hill, NJ. The winners of the first round Wing Offs will then compete in a second round Wing Off to win a spot in the finals. An in-studio Wing-Off will also be held between two people who almost finished their stunt.
- CBS Radio stations in Washington, DC “The Fan”, New York City (WFAN 660), Boston “The Sports Hub”, Chicago “The Score” and Dallas “The Fan” will hold qualifiers sending the winner to the finals. The regional winners will receive $200 and travel expenses.
- Former champions Takeru Kobayashi, Jon Squibb, Joey Chestnut, Bill “El Wingador” Simmons will receive byes and not have to qualify. (It is likely that 100% of those invitations will not be accepted.)
- There are no restrictions on “professionals” or non-locals.
- The overall winner will receive $20000 and a Wing Bowl Champion Ring and gold medal. The top competitor fro the Philadelphia area will win a Chevy Camaro.
The twitter for the WIP Morning show announces that information about Wing Bowl 21 will be revealed on Monday, November 26.
The Draught Horse in Philadelphia will hold a wing eating contest Thursday awarding 76ers tickets.
The Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia will announce its biggest ticket giveaway at 2 pm today. This might be the official announcement for the 2013 Wing Bowl. update The 2013 WIP Wing Bowl was not announced, but a Wing Bowl will take place tomorrow at Kildare's in West Chester, PA
Arroga's has a blog entry about its eating contests in Mechanicsburg, PA awarding a trip to Las Vegas tonight and $250 tomorrow.
Arooga's in Mechanicsburg, PA will hold a ghost pepper wing eating contest awarding a trip to Las Vegas on October 19 and a pizza eating contest awarding $250 on October 20.
Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker will hold the Woodley's Wild Wing Challenge in Pittsburgh on Monday. The first prize is two tickets to a Steelers game.
The Backyard Ale House in Scranton will hold a pumpkin pie eating contest on October 6 awarding $250 to the winner.
The Philly Soft Pretzel Factory in Plymouth Meeting, PA will hold a pretzel dog eating contest tomorrow awarding $250 to the winner.
Brad Sciullo, Bob Kuhns and Pete Maurizio are expected to compete in a spaghetti eating contest tomorrow at Fabrizi's in Hopwood, PA.
Dominick's Pizza in Quakertown, PA will hold a pizza eating contest tomorrow awarding $200 to the winner. The runner-up will receive Phillies tickes.

A package including four floor passes to Wing Bowl 21 on February 1, 2013 sold yesterday on the Eagles RadioThon charity auction, apparently for $750.
Critical Past has images from a news reel about a meal that Tony Laurentis ate in Philadelphia in 1935 that included four pounds of spaghetti, 12 chickens, 2 sirloins and a gallon each of beer and wine. He gained 20 pounds from the meal. (Google News archive article).
La Festa Italia in will hold a cannoli eating contest in Scranton, PA tomorrow awarding $175 ($100 to the winner). update Sep 3 Russ Keeler won the contest with a total of 12 cannolis in 5 minutes.
