Food Republic has a post by Crazy Legs Conti (via comment) about the Concord Mills qualifier in which he compares his career to Shaquille O'Neal's and an interview with Pat Bertoletti. (Conti claims that the second best remunerated IFOCE member received $40,000 which would make the total earnings for the rest of the IFOCE besides Joey Chestnut ($218,000) $332,000 if George Shea's claim of $600K in total compensation is accurate.)

Never give up Legs. You should be the George Forman of CE. Make at least three more come backs.

Crazy Legs is as good on paper as George is with the mic!

It was the energy, desire, and enthusiasm displayed by Takeru Kobayashi and Crazy Legs Conti that initially mobilized my pent-up fan-aticism for competitive eating.

Does anyone find it ironic that Crazy Legs complains of someone having a mess, and meanwhile he’s the one who was caught on video last year in Escondido? Is Adrian Morgan in the house, I think we’d all like to hear his thoughts.

Crazy Legs Conti accusses Subich of using napkins to hide his messiness. I guess rubber gloves is the only proper way to hide your food according to Conti.

    Hi Crazy Legs!

Okay bad joke aside. CLC is a nice guy in person and he is a recognizable face in competitive eating. I think we can all agree that he help CE evolve into what it is today, although we all know it was Koby and Nathan’s who truly put it on the map… With that said, all the work he’s put in with the media, articles, documentary, nice guy and all… I really can’t feel bad for him and what happened in NC because of his actions last year in California, now maybe he knows how it feels to be robbed of a chance of a lifetime.

I can’t tell if this article was him venting frustration or in a way announcing his retirement? If it’s the latter, I wish him the best and I truly think he would be great at doing PR and other behind the scenes work to help CE evolve even more so then he has already helped it become what it is today.

    Best wishes CLC!

Someones, many someones got robbed. Let’s let OJ do the math if he wishes because someone’s math is very wrong. Oh well…….they are PR people who throw out numbers and everything else including eaters. People think that lots of eaters are getting lots of money. It does a great disservice to those who do all kinds of PR appearances gratis. Yes, most people are grateful for the attention, but really, something more ought to be offered. A subway token and perhaps some gas money eventually is actually an insult. Better to take nothing. That is all a shame because there are so many talented people in CE and many can be entertaining. That will likely never ever change. MLE will just keep swapping out eaters, keeping the sponsors happy and raking in the bucks for themselves.

HAHAHA. Very weird article from CLC, I’d like to know what all that chat actually means though – as in a double entendre.

Interesting article. He certainly knows his way around a page. I thought it was interesting that he basically admitted that he’d do anything to win. I guess I respect his honesty there. He seems pretty proud of his ability to generate debris. Hot dog shrapnel? Can someone clear this up for me? If food doesn’t make it from the plate to your mouth, it counts as debris… But if it makes it into your mouth and back out again, is that also debris (subject to deduction only) or is that grounds for DQ? Just curious about how “hot dog shrapnel” can legally be generated. Soggy bun mush, ok, I get that… But bits of hot dog? How do they end up outside the mouth again, and not count as spitting out food?

On another note, I think Joey ate 54 last year (not 68, as mentioned in the article). Not that it matters, I guess.

While I’m on the topic of “possible typos”, in the TimeOut New York article with the coney finalist bios, for Bob Shoudt’s, it says he consumed 312 fluid ounces of chowder in 6 minutes, and in parenthesis next to that, it says that equals 23.4 pounds of food… That can’t possibly be correct, can it? I mean, I know chowder can be thick, but if that’s legit, they must make it with cement mix…

It’s now time for Mr. Conti to go away quietly it seems he has lost the draw as a competitive eater… The crowd sees him as just the weird guy on stage. I no sympathy towards him in a contest were another eater bends the rules or blatantly cheats, what goes around comes around, ,,,,thanks Karma.

    Dave
water has a weight of 8.35 lb per gallon
    312 oz =2.4375 gal ~~~~~2.4375×8.35 = 20.3531 lbs
chowder has a weight of about 8.75
(I say about because every recipe is different)
2.4375×8.75=21.32 maybe they added a bit
by the way I’m a chef

Thanks, JJ. I was amazed to see that figure, but it looks like it’s accurate after all. I think the slight discrepancy comes from the fact that a gallon of milk weighs a bit more than a gallon of water (8.6 lbs.). I assume the lobster chowder is milk based. Dang. I’m stunned that a human being can ingest that much that fast and not die in the attempt. 24 pounds of food in 6 minutes? That has to be the record, for food of any kind. Crazy.

I think whoever eats next to Subich should pour his cups out on the table as soon as the buzzer strikes. Hmm…
