So i guess those are the new rankings according to the broadcast. I guess Koby is now ranked 9 maybe or maybe even 10 if humble bob was to be ranked ahead of him. where does this leave sonya, chip, and many others… this event has changed the face of competitive eating into even more confusion then ever thought possible

Sonya Chip, and Humble Bob are now ranked below the top 15 now. Congratulations to Erik on breaking Sonyas record. I knew he was the true egg king.

That was a really great broadcast. However it is total BS that they can say that the placings in both contests now determine world rankings. Sonya ate more eggs in 6 1/2 minutes than Erik the Red ate in 8 minutes, so how in the hell does he have a new egg record? I also think Chip, Bob Shoudt and Koby might have something to say about those new rankings. What bullshit!

No the new rankings are ligitimite. I always knew Juliet deserved to be the highest ranked IFOCE female. This proves it. Congratulations Juliet. You have nothing left to prove. You are the best.

Romeo, You suck. We all know its you. The results have to be skewed. Juris ate less than Juliet? She looked like she was at a picnic. There is no way she ate more than he did.

You happen to be wrong in some aspects Ron. People that have a life dont care about rankings. The ones that dont have a life or never claimed a competitive eating title and trophy consider being ranked the best thing that ever happened in their life or something that is etched in stone. and any eater that is ranked below them should stay ranked below them because the IFOCE says so. Very sad .

Juliet’s speed was lightning fast and she would have embarased all other members of the same sex had anyone else dared to have been present. With the new rankings I hope people will start giving her the credit that she has long been due. I am so proud of her I need Kleenex. I have a lady friend who wants to start speed eating and after seeing Juliet she would like to see about taking lessons from the master herself.

I thought the whole thing was poorly commentated and not set up for viewer appreciation. I think it is funny how low the numbers were when the eaters actually had to “eat” instead of dunk and “drink” their food. I think alot of IFOCE people need to do their research bout AICE guys and gals. Had AICE eaters been on that stage the IFOCE ranks would be in ruins.
I like the way Rich got the jab in that “this isn’t picnic style, this is MLE”. Looked like everyone was eating picnic style to me……and hey look……the food was weighed…..AMAZING!
Finally…..apples to apples and oranges to oranges.
Great job and congrats to all the eaters

“The ham standings are announced as the new rankings”
I don’t understand what that means. Since when do the rankings in one contest determine the overall rankings? And what about Sonya? I love Juliet, but I think even Juliet will admit that Sonya is a better eater. Very weird.

I really enjoyed watching the contest. It was very well done by all participants, and George, Rich, and Crazy Legs really did a great job announcing. I also have a few other observations:
1. I certainly can understand using various marketing ploys/tactics to promote competitive eating, but things get very convoluted and confusing when you tell fans / viewers one thing and the eaters something else. Case in point: the “new rankings.” So are we to believe that Koby, Sonya, Bob, Chip, and Legs are now ranked somewhere below 14? If this is really not true, why say it on national television? If it is true, how dare you IFOCE!!
2. Relating to the first point, why deny the fact that several of the top ranked eaters were unable to make it? It is a sad state of affairs when you lead the fans on with untruths to sell your product.
3. Erik the Red and others did a really good job with the eggs. But how can you state that a new record was set when it wasn’t — 61 in 8 minutes. That is an outright lie, unless you mean that he established a record for an 8-minute contest. It was even flashed on TV (and announced by Crazy Legs) that Sonya’s record was 65 HBEs in 6 minutes 40 seconds. So since his lesser total was accomplished in a greater amount of time than Sonya’s, how can it be a record at all?
4. Joey is CLEARLY the best eater in the world, though Pat is certainly pushing him. After looking at the ham totals it was obvious to me that had Sonya been there she would have pushed the top two much harder than the others did.
5. It was so funny watching Rich and Dr. Big Time eat. Their hands were going so fast. But not quite so much was going into the mouth.
6. After Juliet gets a few more contests under her belt her speed will improve. She’s still learning how to eat.
7. An obvious and underlying message that was conveyed / directed at other top-ranked eaters was this: If you fail to show up at or participate in televised events, the IFOCE will not just fail to acknowledge your existence to the viewing public, but your absence will likely lead to a substantial drop in the rankings (assuming what they announced to the viewing auduence is true, but it probably isn’t).
8. If the IFOCE were to really follow through with the rankings changes, this action would put an exclamation point on the fact that their ranking system is a complete joke. (i.e. # 16-ranked Humble Bob, Chip, or even more ridiculous: Koby or Sonya, would be ranked behind people who have never, ever come close to finishing ahead of them in any competition to date). Credibility? I think not.

Juris looked like he was really chowing during the contest but only ate 1.7 lbs.I believe he deserves to keep his old ranking.
I hope the MLE looks closer at this decision before they Rank him this high.

Doesnt take someone with much intelligence to figure out Mr Shea was upset that Sonya didnt compete. so they crowned Denmark with the world record. They are masters in knowing how to press people’s buttons

It’s clear that the IFOCE is imploding right now. They’ve lost Koby. They’re at risk of losing Joey. 2008 will be an interesting year to say the least.

Fail to show up?? What the hell were we supposed to do – bust in on the broadcast?!? Remember, knuckleheads, some eaters couldn’t show up if they wanted to …they weren’t picked to be on the show!
Rankings are important – they are a big reason to keep going, motivated, and it effects income – what little there is.
To base rankings on who got invited, and these results, is ridiculous. When a third of the top eaters aren’t there, and to tell them they are no longer top 10, top 20, whatever, because someone else didn’t have to work their “real jobs” that week and could go in their place, just rips the whole thing apart.
Tell me Pat From Moonachie didn’t want to go – have you no memories?? and now he drops because he wasn’t there. Is Crazy Legs no longer a top sixteen eater?? After all, he just talked, didn’t eat. Is El Toro now number 16?? Give me a break….Sonya Thomas, Chip, Humble Bob, Kobayashi now out of the top 16….what planet are we on??and Pat Bertoletti won two out of three events, yet Joey is the overall champ….
This was entertainment for the masses, but for all the competitive eaters in the world, this was a bad and somewhat, mean and cruel joke, and definitely leaves a bad taste in all our mouths.
The show itself got cut up, shortened, there was no “human interest” stuff, and you could tell this was Spike TV pushing around MLE/IFOCE big time. The good news, it was TV time somewhere, but the bad news, this was the worst produced show ever.

Thay are masters at entertainment for the here and now, but they rarely demonstrate neither vision for competitive eating, nor loyalty to longtime members / superstars who helped put CE on the map–nor do they seem to have a viable, realistic business plan for CE.
Like I said, when they behave as they do, it leads me to believe that they themselves think CE is a joke. What is said and what is followed through on are very discrepant.

Before everyone jumps on my head, I will be the FIRST person to admit that I am not at that level…yet. I’d be surprised if the rankings actually changed based on that performance. I did want to put on a good show, though, and I think that was accomplished.
I will EARN at least that ranking this year.

You know what Mega? And I’m just “thinking out loud,” but among Joey, Koby, Bob, Chip, and Pat, any three of those five could go out on their own and the organization we know as the IFOCE would suffer–not die, but certainly suffer.
They haven’t really tasted a joint exodus of talent (real talent) yet, so they don’t have any frame of reference. But they had better be very, very careful, as things appear ripe for a change.
Like that old Three Dog Night song, “A Change is Gonna Come?”

Joey DESERVES to be # 1. Remember, that televised event occurred 4 months ago. Since then Joey has won both Krystals and Wing Bowl, setting new records in both. As long as Joey competes, he will likely never lose his number one ranking, unless some new superhuman force emerges.
(I know, I’m eating my words from 2007, but I admit that I was wrong.)

They should be more concerned about addressing the ranked eaters from 27-43 . Some of them dont belong there at all and some are ranked ahead of others that dont deserve it. It causes nothing but bitterness amongst eaters. I can think of five names that dont deserve the title of pro eater maybe aice fits them alot better

What about certain eaters that are ranked in the top 15 or less that compete in select contests like hot dogs where they excell so they can hold on to their ranking knowing they wont put up big numbers competing in other food categories

Tom Petty i thought alot of you and your musical talents throughout the years but that remark about George Shea was a very low blow. Its a form of Parkinsons disease that he has no control over. It appears to have become more noticable over the past five or six years. How would you like it if you were afflicted with something like that? It’s gotten to the point where he has to ask others to take pictures with a camera. I hope noone listens to your music ever again

I guess the IFOCE hasn’t really changed the rankings. At least the website hasn’t been updated to reflect any change in the rankings. This is reassuring in some respects, but then why bother announcing fake rankings on national television at all? I fear for the future of this sport.

What really bugs me is that most of these idiots try to get to me through Subich and Toro . They feel by that by making negative remarks about them that it will infuriate me more than anything. I got news for all you haters . They are two genuine class act talented individuals . So just cut the BS and move on to some positive thinking. Just because someone is not in the top 5 or 10 you take it upon yourself to bash their eating ability . Those same top 5 or 10 individuals are human just like everyone else and when you put them on a pedestal like they are larger than life icons, you come off as a real ass. This new album i have planned will put everything into perspective and after that im outta here. If anyone takes offense to the lyrics especially the ones that dissed me over the years, well thats just too bad cuz im moving to Austria Hah!
