Fine let him rule. Eventually it will boil down to 5 or 6 members in the entire organization . Have fun!

Anonymous, Thats where I think you are wrong. I think most of us compete for the competion of it all. I also believe that every time I compete I will win. If I don’t win, it was a great experience any way. Anybody can beat any body on any given day. In the couple of months that I have been doing this, I have met some great people.

Anonymous: I do feel ya. But let me say a few things about that. Being at the top is cyclical. (Ask Cookie.)
Several years ago I was an absolutely temendous Cookie Jarvis fan. In 2002 and most of 2003 Cookie seemed almost unbeatable. Then this girl came along named Sonya Thomas and initially lost to Cookie for several contests then started beating him and everybody else. That’s why I resented her for 2 years or so. She had ascended to hights higher than my hero, Ed “Cookie” Jarvis. (Okay, so now you know.)
All I heard or read was Sonya this, Black Widow that for 2 years. I resented her even more. She stayed almost untouchable for 2 years. Then my resentment turned into a deep, deep respect, acceptance, and appreciation for her talent. Now along comes Joey Chestnut, replacing Sonya, who replaced Cookie, both of whom seemed unbeatable versus other US eaters in their heydays.
What I’m trying to say in a long-winded way is that other eaters are now ascending towards Joey’s level of talent. While he’s still winning, he’s not exactly mopping the floor up with all other eaters like he used to. Pat “B,” Chip, and Tim are getting closer to him. And the unbelievable Rich, and yes, Sonya too are resurging further still. And let’s not forget Humble Bob.
Sonya especially amazes me, losing to Joey by a mere 2 gyoza and eating 62 Krystals (a 50 % increase over her inaugural Krystal qualifying total of 42). Sonya’s best days are still ahead I firmly believe. I would not have admited this 6 months ago. She just defies all logic and I simply accept that now.
I would think it to be a safe wager that by early next year, Joey’s winning percentage will drop off quite a bit. It’s really a blessing for the sport that there’s an American eater at the top, paving the way for further improvement.
So in closing I congratulate Joey for another simply outstaning victory. But let it be known that he had better enjoy his time at the top while he can, because being there is cyclical.

I never knew how much negativity lingers among this web site. I admire all the eaters and their achievements, especially whe the pressure is on them.

Joey is doing more with his San Jose State University than I did with a journalism degree from SJSU.
