Michelle "Cardboard Shell" Lesco, Stephanie Torres and Matt Stonie are not just participating in the gyoza contest Saturday, they are also competing to see who can raise the most money for clean water projects in developing nations. A page at MyCharityWater.org is accepting donations. (via Sean Brockert comment).

That’s SO great! Too bad none of the BIG names are doing it. It’d really put that cause on the map. Shame on the others for not using their “celebrity” for good. Disappointed in them.

Why slam others because they are not doing jumping on the same charity bandwagon? Disappointed in you for doing so.
This is exactly why I stopped posting here. Yes, I’m Rhonda.

@anna btw Pat just did a similar idea with the Nathans competition and raised something like $2000 for a food bank in Chicago. So some of the “bigger names” are still doing stuff!

look all i know is that i miss Stephanie Wu so i wrote a little poem hoping she might come out of her hole
Little Stephanie Wu,
A food challenge she will do.
On the circuit she is new,
Her mouth it does chew.
As her CE interest grew,
Her rants were BOO HOO.
I read and I just say, “Eeeww,”
Eaters here think she’s full of poo.
There’s nothing she really knew,
And everyone thought so too.
She gives her point of view,
And rips the Sheas times 2.
With those rants you will not woo,
The Sheas won’t like you.
Be careful they might sue,
So your posts should be few.
I must advise, in lieu,
Stephanie, go have a brew!
For if you don’t watch what you say and do,
You’ll end up like Joe LaRou.
Yours truly,
The Cat In The Hat

No wonder Rhonda hates coming here, she is definitely missed. What a bunch of trash amidst the good stuff. Why people spend so much time hating is impossible to understand. Joe LaRue and Stephanie Wu rhyme and are good people who do not deserve to be trashed. Actually I cannot remember Stephanie’s stances as rants, they were long but filled with ideas and holding to standards in which she fully believed. She certainly was committed to competitive eating and deserves to be treated with the same respect all should be treating each other. Cat in the Hat, your poetry needs work and your ideas need re-orientation.
Why would anyone think that they have a right to decide about people’s choices about contributing to charity. Actually, in this one instance, the most noble contributions are indeed Anonymous. But if you are encouraging contributions, of course you would publicize this just as the eaters are doing above. MLE raised money through eaters and fans after the earthquake in Japan and did not publish a list of contributors. To accuse anyone of being cheap or greedy or to say that someone leaves money in a casino is just plain stupid and mean spirited. These are private matters. Let’s celebrate the great contributions and generous spirits of the eaters currently raising money and cease being uncharitable with words.

I think it’s a shame where this comment spun to. I was merely praising the participants for their “do gooder” approach. I think it’s wonderful that they are brining positive attention to competitive eating. I never “slammed” anyone for not doing so. I said I find it disappointing. If you consider that “slamming” on this site (Rhonda) you HAVE been away for too long! I didn’t call anyone out or speak badly about them. I expressed MY disappointment. I am allowed to do so on a public opinion based site. I am not an eater. I never claim to be. I also don’t come on here & pretend to be someone else. Don’t you dare refer to my post like I said something wrong or I’m misbehaving like the others. You aren’t the only non-eater who knows a thing or two about this. My point being: There was a survey taken in July via ESPN that found that of 80,000 people surveyed 82% did NOT consider competitive eating a sport. If people DID take the approach these three did more often (& yes I know about Pat’s donation, Kobi’s cause for Japan, etc.) there would be more POSITIVE attention around the idea of the sport rather than people thinking the contests are “rigged”, that they’re idea of pro eating is over weight men at a county fair eating pie, etc. The average person will never accept eating as a sport until they can truely see it’s new faces & how far it’s come over the years. When 20,000 people were polled in the greater Phila. area they answered their appeal to the WingBowl was basically watching something unbelievably nuts &/or gross for charity. I applaud the people doing this. Those who have held contests for a good cause. People willing to public draw attention to a cause people may not be aware of or one that is well know. As a spectator I appreciate the selflessness of their actions. End of story.

This is so silly, telling people how to spend their hard earned money. But if that’s what they want to do I’ll play too. I heard:
Truth Hurts spends his winnings on his crack cocain addiction.
Anony 3:56 spends his winnings on safari parties to the arctic to beat baby seals with a club.
Anna N spends her winnings in support of the Free Bernie Madoff Society and wild kitten juggling orgies.
Doesn’t Truth Hurts, Anony 3:56 and Anna N have any shame! Won’t you guys please think about the children! Give Peace a chance! Just say no to drugs! Give a hoot don’t pollute! Please wash hands before returning to the kitchen!

Anna N: If you had taken the time to do one ounce of research you would have learned that the IFOCE as an organization and every top MLE eater has used their name and celebrity to promote causes from underprivilegeds children to support of our fighting men and women. Out of respect for their charity work I won’t take the time to list them. But next time you go splashing others with your broad brush of greed and shame, maybe you should be looking into the mirror for a little introspection about the superior opinion you have over others.

Stone thrower some of the top names in the sport feel that donating money to a worth cause is a waste of time because how do they know where the money is actually being distributed? Most of these so called fund raising charities are a waste of time and a scam.If new born infants or children with cancer were actually benefiting from the money or if we could witness food being placed in the mouths of children from poverty stricken countries , then maybe its worth donating. Until then all this cancer research and other charitable organizations are a bunch of hogwash. Cancer , heart disease, AIDS and other fatal diseases are still with us and will be with us for years to come

No Anna N, you did start a problem by writing what can only be seen as a back handed compliment. That is why you are being rightly criticized. “That’s SO great! Too bad none of the BIG names are doing it. It’d really put that cause on the map. Shame on the others for not using their “celebrity” for good. Disappointed in them.” This is an opinion for sure but not one to garner praise from me. You did slam others using exactly the words above and who are those others? Your long post regarding whether or not competitive eating is a sport has nothing whatsoever to do with raising money for charity through eating contests or otherwise. Your objection is noted.

They actually do tie together “Stallion Italian”. For the record, the IFOCE is not the only organization known & counted in public arenas in terms of competitive eating. Ask any “average Joe” off the street what IFOCE even is… Blank stares. As spectators we correlate stunts with faces. Not names of organizations. WingBowl- charity. Pizza SlaughterFest- charity. The three eaters whom this comment was directed to originally- charity. These are the points I’d like to see emphasized. Not just here, but in the public eye & more often. Stop trying to change the topic by calling it a “back handed compliment” & give THEM the credit they deserve!

Anna you knowingly speaketh with multiforked tongue!
You know exactly what your comment was, and why you made it, so does anyone of average intelligence. Your assertion typifies the type of back-handed, mean-spirited comments that are preponderant on this site. You’re a great fit in that light.
Charity is and should be a very private matter. Those who give for / support good causes, like Michelle, Stephanie, Matt, and Pat did in this instance, are certainly worthy of kind words, and without using the positive situation as a cow from which to milk something negative, which is what you did.
Furthermore, clean water is surely not the only cause worth supporting in this vast world (e.g. Japan Tsunami, Katrina, world hunger, lung cancer, heart disease, Alzheimer’s, breast cancer, stress-reduction … ), nor does any self-respecting person want to keep tallies on who donates to what, how much, etc.
Hopefully some of the money that Steph and Michelle raised can be used to replace the bad water you’ve evidently been gulping.
Maybe you need to get your pipes cleaned too, while you’re at it!

Good Morning eatfeats and Anna N. I do not follow your logic but thought I had and continue to give credit to all eaters who contribute to charity regardless of their affiliations. “Let’s celebrate the great contributions and generous spirits of the eaters currently raising money and cease being uncharitable with words.” from my August 18th posting. That goes for past, present and future. The more fans for competitive eating, the better. Do not wish to quarrel with you in your enthusiasm for competitive eating. I do respond to what I interpret (my opinion only) as inappropriate or mean spirited postings.

The idea of eating for charity is not only stupid by selfish. Im going to eat this amt of wings or pizza and for each wing or slice a dollar will go to this cause. Just take the money out of the pocket and give to charity . It just proves that all you care about is eating using the charity gimmick to stuff your face

When Joey Chestnut donated a portion of his contest winnings to Katrina victims, that was a true gesture of kindness and compassion. When the dollar comes directly out of the eater pocket then you can say he or she donated to charity. As long as an eater can obtain a not for profit free meal while hoodwinking the public into thinking its for a good cause is one slick con artist
