Miki Sudo would probably be the top local female in tomorrow's Las Vegas Nathan's qualifier if she competes. The Las Vegas Sun has a list of six Nevada eating challenges, mentioning her as the recipient of a $1,510 payout after finishing the challenge at Pho 87 in December. She is not the first person to finish the challenge; Naader Reda, Matt Stonie and Stephanie Torres completed it, but had difficulty receiving payment due to an unlisted ban on "professionals." (video about challenge where Miki Sudo appears) The $1,510 award is the largest eating challenge payout I am aware of and preserves a streak of all known eating challenge prizes greater than $1000 being awarded to women. Updated payout list available after jump. (Original list)
  • $1510, Miki Sudo, December 2011, Pho 87, Las Vegas
  • $300 / $1300, unamed 130 pound woman, 3 2+ pound burritos, Green Burrito, Orange County, CA. The base reward for completing the challenge was $300. The restaurant owner gave the woman a $1000 bonus for finishing the challenge a second time in his presence. The feat was mentioned in a 1993 Los Angeles Times article, so it is at least that old.
  • $1200, Mandy Brown (1992), 72 ounce chicken fried steak meal, Thudpucker's (now closed), Spokane, WA
  • $1000, Stephanie Torres, Hugilio Pizza, Virgilio's, Lakewood, CO
  • $1000, Pat Bertoletti, 29 Inch Pizza, Barlo's Pizza, Indianapolis, IN
  • $1000, Dale Boone, 28 Inch Pizza, Roma's Pizza, Augusta, GA
  • $1000, team of 7, 54 Inch Sicilian Pizza, Big Mama's & Papa's Pizzeria, Los Angeles, CA
  • $666, Malory Roe, 6 gyro challenge, South Side 6, Bowling Green, Ohio
  • $500, Dale Boone (2009) and Jon Squibb (2010), 32 inch pizza, Paventi's Pizzeria, Charlotte, NC
  • $500, Balinda Gould, Hot Dog Hall of Fame (43 chili dogs), The Rockford Corner Bar, Rockford, MI
  • $500, Tom Gilbert, OMG Burger, The Catch, Anaheim, CA
  • $500, teams of 3 in 2009 and 2010, Zeus Burger Challenge, Clinton Station Diner, Clinton, NJ
  • $500, 16 teams of 2 2001-2010, Pointersaurus Pizza, Pointer's Pizza, Richmond Heights, MO
  • $450 Randy Santel, The Haus Pizza, Pizza Haus, Jefferson City, MO
  • $400, Brad Sciullo, Belly Bruiser Burger, Denny's Beer Barrel Pub, Clearfield, PA

I have a feeling she won’t be competing:

For clarity, accuracy, and for using as few words as possible to make your point, I have to nominate Anony 1:37 p.m. as the best EATFEATS post of the year. I don’t know if you meant to be funny, but sometimes the fewest words can make you laugh. Just the fact that OJ set you up with quite an extensive post, showing eating records, various videos, even a jump to read on, and you kind of summed it up — Nah, I don’t think that’s going to happen. When you click on Anony 1;37’s hyperlink it you’ll see why.

A friend of mine (The Spicialist) googled “Miki Sudo Las Vegas, NV” and all those stories came up. We wonder if the prize she received for finishing the Pho 87 was legit or a publicity stunt. Who knows.

I never attempted the Pho 87 challenge, I think your mixing it up with the Pho King Challenge in Houston TX. I eventually got the $1000 prize for that. Apparently that specific location offering the challenge closed down LOL

If she really did it, she sure as hell didn’t do it in that dress. We, as eaters, KNOW what our clothes look like after a contest or a challenge. Like Naader, I call bullsh*t.

Nice job 1:37, 4:17 and the Spicialist for the research. I know we’re just teasing OJ for all the great hard work he does in his research. You guys are too young, but OJ’s post reminds of an old Rosanne Rosanadana SNL skit by Gilda Radnor where her character would go into this whole, long, inane convoluted theory, and when she found out she was wrong she just end the thing with — never mind. OJ should update his extensive post regarding Miki Sudo with, “UPDATE: Regarding the above materiaI regarding Mike Sudo — never mind.” But I do like the idea of Eatie Awards for the best post of the year. Rhonda Evans would be favorite for an Eatie and maybe even, dare I say, even “Beautiful” Brian Seiken should be in the running for an Eatie just for the entertainment value of his posts.

Tom Gilbert was the other one who completed the Pho 87 challenge in Vegas – not Stonie. I think that explains the mix-up.

Actually, Matt, the Carson location of Pho King Way offers the challenge. If I’m feeling bold I might try it.. but I know from your account of it that I’d be in over my head.

No, not a fan of hot dogs, but thanks for the acknowledgement… And no, no “publicity stunt” here; that’s the last thing I was going for 🙂

Good luck to you Miki. You’re one bad Mo “Pho” in that challenge, as evidenced by last year’s performance. You go girl!
