Sonya ties American & sets qualifier record in Chattanooga

KrystalSquareOff.com has complete results from today’s qualifier in Chattanooga. The top 3 finishers are:

1st-Sonya Thomas (62)
2nd-Chris Abatsas (32)
3rd-Shaun Kesler (23)

Sonya ties the US record set by Joey Chestnut in last year’s finals and beats her personal (and allover qualifier) record of 57 she set last year.

    Anyone agree with the idea of having a competiitve eating chat room so us guys can hang out at all wee hours of the night and discuss competiitive eating and talk smack about other eaters? Message board like this is cool but nothing like a chat room.

    I am new here, I am Sonya ‘ fan too. I only had once amateur Three brother Pizza cntest.I love to eat
    and eat a lot maybe 10, 15, 20 lb?( never weiht the food, just know a lot, once a day) I am realy like to be professional eater, do not know where can I start. Anyone can help ? Thank you!

    Where did all the Sonya doubters go? That was absolutely stupendous! I don’t know how she can top that even in the finals. But she just might, as it looks as if Sonya has shifted into overdrive.

    Juliet you can probably find info at the IFOCE Web site. I would try there and maybe send an E-mail. There really needs to be more females. I think Sonya is the only one right now, at least in the top 50.

    Congratulations on your Three Brothers Pizza amateur victory. Hope to see you in a non-amateur contest soon. There will probably be another DC area contest sometime this fall, but it has not been announced on the IFOCE.com website.

    I have no inside information about the upcoming schedule. I am just assuming that based on the relative frequency of DC area IFOCE events (Baltimore/DE crabcakes, Bethesda wings) that it won’t be too long before there is another contest in that area.

    My shortterm goal as an eater is to eat in a contest that she doesnt eat TWICE as much as me. She’s so good, it may turn into a longterm goal. Great job Sonya, I’m really inspired by your competitive spirit!

    Until eaters start winning money to help alleviate travel costs, I think it’s all heart and some credit card bills 🙂 We all hope you compete again, Juliet!
