Can everyone see it coming? I’ve got a sneaking suspicion that all the evidence is pointing to Miki Sudo trying to pull a Stephanie Torres. I mean why would she start a show, and then join MLE? She obviously has and had future TV interests, craves the spotlight, and joining the MLE never seemed to be in the equasion. Unlike Torres though, if Miki does bolt MLE I think she might encounter a little push back. The first time young Miki accepts a request to do a contest, tv show, or any event without MLE approval, it’s lawyer time baby. This time MLE would probably go after any earnings, money spent, and potential three-year future earnings based on breach of contract. Torres never would of been first tier and Dax Swanson is a two-pound eating nobody. But Sudo’s got potential to be first tier talent and for the MLE just to let her walk sends a bad message to any future eaters. Take a seat everyone, this could get interesting.

4:40 — Miki Sudo obviously taped the show before she signed the MLE contract. My point is, doesn’t it seem a bit odd that she even did the show, if she knew eventually she’d sign with MLE? No one takes a three-year comitment that lightly. And, her past clearly shows that breaking the law, pretty agregiously I might add, isn’t a problem. In fact, she goes and tells her friends to tell everyone it was just a prank. A harmless thing to get back at her boyfriend. Never really publicly apologized to those she harmed. She’s built this entourage of independent lackies who have no problem trash talking against other MLE eaters. Obviously, loves the personal attention of a crowd of yes men, but an organization like MLE, or fellow MLE eaters, well they’re on their own. Kind of selfish, don’t you think? A lot is adding up that this girl’s going to be self absorbed trouble.

Pat Bertoletti claims he will be in Naples, FL this weekend on his twitter (but does not say he will compete in the qualifier)

    https://twitter.com/deepdisheats/status/329733155705745408

With the loss of Isle of Capri is a sponsor, it appears there will be three Midwestern MLE contests in the first half of 2013: the Chicago Ribfest, Cincinnati Hooter qualifier and St. Paul Nathan’s qualifier.

Sounds like most people here have actually read the contract. MLE RESERVES THE RIGHT to manage appearances in all forms of media and entertainment, but they DON’T BAN appearances outright. MLE can say “no,” but they can also consider various opportunities, and how they may benefit the organization, as they arise.

MLE invests a lot into their eaters, so it’s understandable that they’d want to protect that. It doesn’t seem likely, but if big enough opportunities come by, with backers that can adequately compensate MLE for the use of their assets, we might see more of this sort of stuff. .

The IFOCE should know if he’s granted a spot in Naples. Is his name on their expected participant’s list? If not, his outing there will merely be a vacation in sunny Florida.

9:07: Actually, I’m surprised that most of the competitors who started in the early or mid-2000-2010 decade haven’t left MLE already. One, because it seems like it would, indeed get boring. Two, because that’s a long time to sacrifice freedom. And three, and most importantly, there is bound to be a price to pay when you speed-eat gargantuan amounts of food for the better part of a decade—-or longer.

I think back to a health-related commercial I saw on TV years ago, the message from which is still true today. It asserted that what you do in your 20s and 30s, when you seem(ed) semi-invincible, affects your health and lifestyle in your 50s and 60s.

Anything in moderation is okay, of course, but many top CE eaters have a different “script.” Of course, some people can get away with it; but I’d say most cannot and will not.

9:36: Good point. If I may add to that, it may very well be that the participation by all eaters in the STUFFED event is perfectly okay with MLE.

I paused, however, when I saw the name of at least one non-MLE eater who participated with several IFOCE people. With the exception of Wing Bowl (accidentally wrote bowel, initially—-Freudian slip?) a few years ago, I cannot remember MLE approving their eaters to participate at events with non-MLE gurgitators.

If MLE has changed that business rule, so be it. I only remember what I read and hear.

9:36 — Don’t hang out your legal shingle too fast. They let Takeru Kobayashi go because he was never under contract. She signed, she’s theirs. Would Miki Sudo really want to get involved in a legal dispute with individuals who are top lawyers, when she has to pay for representation? They can tie her up court so tight that the next time she sees an eating competition is against androids. It sounds as if “Queen” Miki may not have thought this out when she plans on bolting MLE a la Torres. BTW Dax the Dumbass and the rest of Queen Miki’s court are not top five eaters, they have no idea of the potential money involved. MLE could care less if Dax or any eater at his level ate Hebrew National or Hofmann’s. Miki’s a whole different story, potential top five means brand recognition. If she hasn’t seen it by now, she’s going to get offers, if she does well at Nathan’s she’ll get even more offers, if she takes up on one of those offers without MLE’s okay she’s going to get her ass kicked.

Same applies to pro boxing. The long term effects of getting pounded in the head takes its toll on the brain and as a result you can see what it did to Joe Frazier , Ali Sugar Ray Leonard Tyson Hearns and other big names . Motor skills , slurred speech. However George Foreman is the exception only because he took ten years off from the sport which gives the membranes in the brain and nerve system a huge break from the brutal punishment they endure in the ring. In comp eating , the big eaters or the more active ones can benefit from the same by taking a few years off The body does not need as much time as boxers did to recuperate from the effects on the digestive system. If Pat Joey and a few others stopped competing when they reach 30 or below and checked back 3 or 4yrs later they would be fine. If they continue the pace they are on without a long break , they are in for a very rude awakening when they hit 45 and beyond

Gravy, you wanted honesty … nobody watched the show. I mean what channel is it on, Dupage County Cable Access? A show featuring dog farts is on Youtube and gets a larger audience then you guys got. Love the guy, but Pat looks like he’s reading cue cards. You, well serious dude, how can you give any advice to a potential top professional eater: “Okay I’m going to tell you how to choke at Nathan’s?” Stick to your day job on the food truck and enjoy watching Nathan’s on the Fourth of July. I now understand why Miki Sudo went MLE. I just hope Sudo has the sense to discard that two pound eating idiot Dax the Dumbass. One good thing is hopefully Pat will see how amateur time this show is in time for MLE to let him back in for Nathan’s. I mean with MLE Pat’s “Good Morning America,” CNN, and Associated Press. This show’s the fricking “Eating Channel?” What the hell is that? I guess if Pat wanted to take a break from competitive eating this show will provide.

    @its coming:

Your entire argument falls apart at the point where you ASSUME miki, Dax, pat, and the production crew haven’t gotten the green light from MLE. Don’t you realize MLE is a business? Under contract, eaters are assets. It BENEFITS MLE to have eaters for whom other businesses are willing to pay $$$.

I hope that clarified a few points so you can waste your time obsessing about more important things now.

Gravy, you certainly know by now that many commenters on here are not exactly cream of the crop. They love to make stuff up and say idiotic things just for the sake of doing it. I thought it was entertaining and MLE continues to expand what it considers of value for its eaters and the organization. That is great. All excellent. Other independents mingling and working with MLE eaters is good for everyone.

This is MLE’s best shot to grow as an organisation, is to just let their marketable eatings branch out and do other things, just as long as MLE get’s to advertise on the product. The show was a little over cheesey, but I really like the production. If MLE is smart they will let Miki do as many public apperances as she can , all while under a MLE Logo. I don’t see how people are complaining about this, there is no such thing as bad publicity.

She’s young, talented, and easy on the eyes. Worst of all, she’s taking attention away from more deserving eaters who have worked for the spotlight for a lot longer. That’s why we’re complaining.

Miki is no harder on the eyes than most any other woman in Comp. Eat. She seems to have talent as far as eating. Let’s see her win a contest or two over the rest of the year to help put things in perspective. Right now she’s under observation.

1005 May 2 this show is not MLE chance to branch out . If they allow Dick the Ginger Swanson to appear on the show instead of Brian Seiken. something is wrong. Is Seiken not a better more experienced eater than Dax Ginger? Who the hell is he to begin with? Did he ever win an eating title ? Does he have a long running website? Did he ever host a 26 episode show on the internet with special guests?
