The Boston Herald incorrectly states that Joey Chestnut's will compete in New England for the first time at the Upper Crust pizza eating contest on Saturday. Joey Chestnut won the Verizon VoiceWing finals in Boston in 2005 and competed in three Ash Creek Saloon rib eating contests in Connecticut. update The Christian Science Monitor has a 2005 article article about Joey Chestnut's Verizon VoiceWing victory.

SF Verizon Wings first-person account

Duncan Scott Davidson, a writer for the San Francisco Bay Guardian, has a report of his experience as a competitor in the San Francisco Verizon VoiceWing buffalo wing qualifier held at Knuckle’s sports bar in October. In that contest, Rich LeFevre defeated Cookie Jarvis in double overtime. Davidson managed 1.97 pounds of meat in 10 minutes. If you are interested in who won the $250 third prize, which was never listed at IFOCE.com, it was triathlete Chris Coble.

Verizon VoiceWing final results

from “Beautiful” Brian Seiken:

1. Joey Chestnut 4.2 lbs
2. Cookie Jarvis 3.7lbs
3. Bob Shoudt 3.4.
4. Sonya Thomas 3.2
T4 . Chip Simpson 3.2

Sonya Thomas finishes out of the top three for the first time since Nathan’s 2003 I believe and is beaten by Cookie Jarvis for the first time in over a year. With her loss to Badlands Booker in the Buffalo Wing Festival Labor Day weekend, I wonder if the trauma of the 2005 Wing Bowl has resulted in psychological difficulties in chicken wing contests for her.

The Boston Herald has an article about the contest but does not give many results.
