Badlands Booker praised in Spin Magazine
The March issue (print only not available online) of Spin Magazine has a near full page article (on page 40) about Eric “Badlands” Booker’s rap CDs. The article is not in the reviews section, so there is not an in depth analysis of the tracks, but the author does claim that Booker is a worthy student of the school of East Coast Rap. Booker says that the topic of competitive eating is not a gimmick; he is rapping about his everyday life when he busts rhymes about eating contests. Charles Hardy’s anti-AICE guest appearance is mentioned as one of the tracks. The April issue of Spin will be out soon so your time to check that article out is limited.
Opie & Anthony St. Patrick’s Day egg eating contest cancelled
From wackbag.com – registration required to view post.
A hard boiled egg eating contest held at the Hard Rock Cafe in New York City was supposed to have been broadcast live on the Opie & Anthony show on Saint Patrick’s Day. Like the egg nog drinking contest held on air in December, the contest would have featured Pat “from Moonachie” Philbin and Badlands Booker, but would have also been open to the general public. That event could not be held because due to problems with state and/or local government. A lack of a permit was one reason given why the contest could not take place.
BB on the Doodle Burger record
“Beautiful” Brian Seiken has a new article about Tim Janus’ new Doodle Burger record and Eric “Badlands” Booker’s previous record. Seiken was an eyewitness to Booker’s record and has some pictures and a video clip of that endeavor.

Hungry & Focused II available for purchase

Booker defeats Philbin in Egg Nog
(from beautifulbrian.com) On the Opie and Anthony radio show this morning, Eric “Badlands” Booker defeated Pat “from Moonachie” Philbin in an Egg Nog drinking contest. Both Philbin and Booker vomited after drinking 71 double shots of the holiday beverage, but Philbin suffered a reversal of fortune first, giving Booker the victory. If you missed the contest, you can relive it through an 800+ post thread on the Opie and Anthony message board.
I am surprised that IFOCE endorsed this event (I am assuming that the IFOCE contract would require approval for a contest like this) as I don’t think it promotes the image of competitive eating they would like portrayed.
Hungry & Focused II samples uploaded
Hungry & Focused II – Ingestion Engine Samples mp3 file (3.6 MB 4 minutes)
Sampled songs include:
“Back in the Flesh” George Shea
“Buffet Crashers feat ” Crazy Legs, Eater X , Godfather
“That Eating thing they do” (pays homage to Carlene Lefevre & Sonya Thomas)
I was quite impressed with the production values of the samples. I was expecting something like the 1985 Chicago Bears “Super Bowl Shuffle” rap, but the quality is vastly higher than that.

Congratulation to Badlands Booker whose 24.5 sandwiches is the second best so far on the qualifying circuit. Booker’s victory makes the NC contest appear to be rather wide open, with Joe LaRue the highest ranked eater currently expected to attend.
Update 10/15 8:31 pm WLTX has an article and a video clip about the contest
Seattle Verizon VoiceWing Battle Preview
The Seattle Times has a preview of Saturday’s Verizon VoiceWing chicken wing qualifier focusing on expected entrants Joey Chestnut and Eric “Badlands” Booker. The training methods of both competitiors are described. The article incorrectly states that Booker holds the Buffalo Wing Festival contest record (which was set by Sonya Thomas in 2004). It is surprising that Joey Chestnut would make the trip north when he has a qualifying contest in his hometown in two weeks. “Humble” Bob Shoudt states on his website that he and Patrick Bertoletti are also planning to compete. The top five competitors in the three qualifiers (also in SF and DC) will make the finals in Boston.
Eric “Badlands” Booker wins Buffalo Wing contest
In a shocking upset, Eric “Badlands” Booker won the Buffalo Wing contest at the Buffalo Wing Festival Saturday. His total of 137 wings beat Sonya Thomas’ total by ten wings. This is Sonya Thomas first loss to an eater besides Kobayashi since the Philadelphia Wing Bowl in early February, a period of about seven months. There is apparently no controversy about the Buffalo result which could not be claimed for the Wing Bowl. The upset is especially suprising given that Sonya almost ate twice as many lobsters as Booker in the Maine lobster contest in August. Sonya will have the chance to resume her non-Kobayashi winning streak when she competes in the Atlanta Waffle House contest on Sunday and the Chattanooga Krystal qualifier on Labor Day. Cookie Jarvis was 3rd and Bob Shoudt placed 4th.
