The University of Maryland won today’s Collegiate Competitive Eating League National Championship. Other teams came from Hofstra and New York University. Ben “El Diablo” Kastner was named Most Valuable Eater. Campus Food UMD has a gallery.

In a response to a twitter question, Bonnie Bernstein of ESPN says she would not only have joined a collegiate competitive eating team if it existed when she was a gymnast at the University of Maryland, she claims she would have been a four time national champion in eating. update A facebook page about the team has been started. The writer of the web page about the baked bean contest to be held at the Beer and Bourbon Festival at National Harbor, Maryland (suburban Washington, DC) appears ignorant that two of the world’s top competitive eaters are DC-area women:
