Spike TV categorizes St. Patrick’s Day Chowdown as comedy
The listing for the Saint Patrick’s Day Chowdown on zap2it says that 12 eaters will be in the first round instead of 8.
The listing on SpikeTV.com (unlinkable Flash only site 🙁 , screen capture is after jump) says the first round will have 8 eaters, but the program is categorized as comedy.

St. Patrick’s Day Chowdown field & format released
PRNewswire has a press release about the Saint Patrick’s Day contest to be televised on Spike TV. The field will consist solely of the eaters in the top 8 of the IFOCE rankings: Takeru Kobayashi, Joey “Jaws” Chestnut, Sonya “The Black Widow” Thomas, “Humble” Bob Shoudt, Patrick Bertoletti, Timothy “Eater X” Janus, Richard LeFevre and Chip Simpson.
The first round food will be corned beef & cabbage, the second round will have jalapenos and green doughnuts will be used in the final round. Beef tongue will not be in the tournament, contrary to early reports.
Spike TV to televise IFOCE contests
IFOCE announces that the cable network Spike TV will broadcast four Major League eating events in 2007 starting with the Saint Patrick’s Day Showdown in Savannah, GA which will be televised from a same day tape on March 17 at 7pm. The new contest will be a tournament similar to Broadway at the Beach and Takeru Kobayashi, Joey “Jaws” Chestnut, Sonya “The Black Widow” Thomas, “Humble” Bob Shoudt and Chip Simpson are expected. The other three events to be televised in 2007 have yet to be determined. It is not mentioned if Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating contest will remain on ESPN or be shifted to Spike.
