(If there is a non-eater award in 2007 for writers, Dave Shoffner will not be eligible since he has started to compete in events, but he did not compete in the July 5, 2005 – July 4, 2006 period in which these awards are based.)

Near final “Trenchie” categories and nominations

I am going to start the Trenchie voting tomorrow night with these categories and choices (listed after the jump). Last minute nominations can still be made before that time. Each category can be voted on for two days. If you have difficulty voting, votes can be sent by email. I have tried to avoid purely subjective categories as I think that they will result in too much dissension.

New Poll: problems with polling

Problems have been reported with this website’s polls. I want to make sure the polls are working before I start “Trenchy” voting. The new poll asks if you have had difficulty voting once in the polls. Voting multiple times should be prevented.

Apologies for the recent downtime

This website was down from 1am to 2am eastern. My hosting provider has been having a lot of downtime recently and I will have to move to a new one if things do not improve soon. If you have experienced difficulty accessing this site in the past month, the problem probably lies with the web server and not your internet connection.

1 year blog anniversary and upcoming rebranding

Today marks the one year anniversary of the blog. Thanks for all your contributions and comments (well thanks for most of the comments)

I have decided to move the blog to eatfeats.com and integrate the blog with the database currently hosted at that URL unless there is overwhelming demand for the blog to stay at trencherwomen. The focus of the blog has gradually shifted from female competitive eaters to competitive eating in general and it is time that the domain name reflected that (and the fact that a sizeable portion of the population does not know what a trencher(wo)man is probably has not helped things).

I will set trencherwomen to automatically redirect to eatfeats when I have the database intregation complete which I hope will be by July 25, which is the anniversary of the date trencherwomen.com was pointed to the blog. After the search engines have indexed the new URL in a month or two, I will stop the automatic redirection and restore the original focus of trencherwomen by syndicating the blog entries dealing with female competitive eaters on it.

Request for “Trenchy” nominations & categories

With the close of the “eating season” I thought it would be appropriate to honor eaters and events from the period July 5, 2005 to July 4, 2006 by having the “Trenchy” awards. My list of nominations is available after the jump, but I am sure I skipped some obvious ones, so please submit your nominations in emails or comments. The nominations period will last about a week and then the awards will be voted on in the polls section of this website.

I do not have categories for best male & female eater of the year, because I believe that it is obvious that the winners of those awards would be Kobayashi and Sonya Thomas and I do not want to run the risk of ballot stuffing.

Feel free to suggest additional categories, but I am not going to do negative awards or categories I believe will be too contentious like best looking or best liked.

There will be no monetory or tangible award for the winners and I reserve the right to drop the idea completely if I think it will cause too many problems.

Categories & nominations are available after the jump

Updated 7/20 12:24 am
Thanks for your nominations & suggestions. Please do not email me your votes, I will use the polling mechanism of the blog once the nominations have been finalized. I have heard that some people have difficulty voting in the polls, please inform me if that is the case for you.

I do not want to have categories which I think are too subjective and will cause too much arguing, like favorite eater. I have to include favorite eater website in that group because of the ballot stuffing that occured when that was a poll question.

Event nominees must have occured between July 5, 2005 and July 4, 2006. (“Airline” was broadcast in May 2005)

Limited posting & comment approval until Monday

I will be away from my regular internet connection until Monday and new posting and comment approval will be sporadic and possibly non-existent. I have set up a pipeline with some new posts so there will be some fresh content for the blog during that period. If you need results from the NC rib contest, sonyatheblackwidow.com and/or beautifulbrian.com should have that information (and possibly even IFOCE.com). Also keep checking http://urbanhonking.com/truefan for Liz & Krista’s Coney Island writeup.
