Bracknell News has an article about Kate Ovens completing the challenge platter at Blue's Smokehouse in Bracknell, England which consisted of a rack of ribs, pulled pork, burnt ends and brisket, a half chicken, three sausages, coleslaw, chips and corn. The challenge was part of the Eat Out to Help Out campaign to promote restaurants.

Metro.co.uk has a report on yesterday's British Eating League bean on toast competition held at The George Pub in Stockton on Tees. Kyle (Kyle v Food) Gibson ate 20 slices of toast and 2.5kg of baked beans in 6:39 to win the contest.

University study on occasional oversize meals

A study by the University of Bath reports that occasional oversized meals do not have an immediate negative health impact on healthy males between the ages of 22 and 37.

Those who volunteered for the trial consumed almost twice as much pizza when pushing beyond their usual limits, doubling their calorie intake.

But the study found the amount of nutrients in their bloodstream kept within normal range.

Researchers say this shows that if an otherwise healthy person overindulges occasionally there are no immediate negative consequences in terms of losing metabolic control.

The organization will also hold a beans on toast eating contest on Saturday, July 25 awarding £100 cash and a £50 food voucher to the winner.
