New look for DennysBeerBarrelPub.com

The website for Denny’s Beer Barrel Pub has been revamped and now has a blog listing challenge burger attempts and other news. No links to the old finishers database appear to be present on the new site, but the database still works. Brad Sciullo finishing the Belly Bruiser is not mentioned on the new site, but a picture of Brad is present.

Brad Sciullo interview in Mouthpiece Sports

The Mouthpiece Sports blog has an interview with Brad Sciullo about his successful completion of the Belly Bruiser challenge. Brad finishes the interview in the following manner:

It’s opening some eyes. This is great for all competitive eaters. Everyone of us is going to benefit from this because this raises the bar. I’m guaranteeing you that from this day forward bigger numbers will be put up — numbers like no one’s ever seen. Things that make this look ridiculously easy because everyone’s going to realize that this is possible. That someone like myself — who isn’t as good as the top-ranked eaters — can do this this is going to send everyone into a frenzy. And it’s going to be great for the sport in general.

And what’s next:

I’m either going to go back to Denny’s and eat every one of their burgers on their menu in the same day, which will equal about what that burger weighed. I’ll eat the two-pounder, the three-pounder, and the Ye’ Olde 96er in the same day. Or I’m going to do a pizza competition.

Her time of 20 minutes was 10 minutes faster than the previous record of a half an hour and almost halved the previous female record held by Lori Weiss of 36 minutes.

Denny’s honors Lori Weiss

DennysBeerBarrelPub.com announces that the restaurant presented a trophy to Lori Weiss on her recent birthday to honor her eating achievements at that establishment. Ms. Weiss is one of two people to have completed the monster 96er burger and also holds the female speed records for the two and three pound burgers. (The website lists Lori’s last name as “Weis”, but her 96er finisher plaque and other articles list it as “Weiss”. )

Denny’s website also mentions that it will be featured on a Travel Channel program, “All You Can Eat Food Paradise”, later this month. The program will debut on April 26 at 6pm eastern and be rerun on April 30 at 8pm.

Australian claims she can finish 96er

In a thread about Kate Stelnick’s completion of Denny’s Beer Barrel Pub’s 96er burger, a commenter from Australia calling herself “QueenQeeko” makes the following claim:

And I look at that burger and I seriously think I could devour that in less than two hours tops.

Here is one small example of what I am capable of. I went to the mall with two friends not all that long ago. This was their silly attempt at making me more of a girly-girl and made me wear pink. I showed them later. Anyways, by late morning we decided for an early lunch. My friend Kitty Kat and I went straight for the Chinese buffet. Now here is where I’m also a master of stacking food. I don’t know how tall the pile was but I know that I did it well. I ordered a large size plate and stacked it up with at least 8 pounds of food. Huge meal. Kitty Kat did the same (she’s taller than me too and said I’d never down my meal).

In the space of 20 minutes, I chowed down all of the food I had bought, then ate half of what Kat had bought (she couldn’t make it pass a third of it). I took the rest home in a plastic container. Immediately after this I bought a tray of doughnuts and a gigantic smoothie that was 90% fruit, yogurt and icecream.

That day I out-ate what every member of my family can do and they are all big eaters. And I still felt I had room for something else.

ABC 23 article about Niner Diner challenge

The following paragraph is currently at the bottom of ABC 23’s list of local news stories. I have quoted it since it will probably scroll off soon:

Tiny’s Challenge
Dec 01, 2007

The holidays are times when many of us – whether intentionally or not – overeat. But today one group is stuffing their stomachs to the max – all in the name of competitive eating. Niner’s diner in Nanty Glo serving up five helpings of Tiny’s Challenge this afternoon. It’s three pounds of ground beef – a pound of cheese – and a pound of toppings – complimented by five pounds of fries. Five eaters from across the state – one even as far as Brooklyn -taking on the challenge today. In the five-year history of Tiny’s Challenge only one person has been able to put down all ten pounds of food. For today’s eaters the challenge ranks up there with some of the best in the state.

Niner Diner report

Megamunch has a report from yesterday’s UEPa meeting at the Niner Diner in Nanty Glo, PA. Two eaters finished the three pound burger, but noone finished the five pounds of fries required to complete the challenge. The restaurant’s owner claims the only successful finisher of the entire eight pounds was an unnamed 90 pound woman who works in a Wal Mart. Ian HIckman did not attend due to a film session. The meeting received local media coverage. A gallery is available.

Next UEPa meeting December 1 in Nanty Glo

Megamunch has a post on the date & site of the next UEPa meeting which will probably take place on December 1 at the Niner Diner in Nanty Glo, PA. The diner offers a 3 pound burger challenge which includes 5 pounds of fries along with a pancake challenge. At $5.95, the pancake challenge is the cheapest eating challenge that will be free if eaten under a time limit I am aware of.

Denny’s Beer Barrel Pub has fallen out of favor with some UEPa members due to lack of notification about the team 15 pound burger contest and confusion on whether the Wall of Fame has been updated to include the successful challenges at the last UEPa meeting at Denny’s. DennysBeerBarrelPub.com has an online wall of fame, but it has been completely empty for at least 6 months.

Denny’s 123 lb. burger turned into dog food

StarGazetteNews.com has a column about Denny’s Beer Barrel 123 pound burger and its unveiling ceremony February 24. The burger did not have the most glorious ultimate fate:

The burger party included a burger-eating competition won by a Virginia man. Ian Hickman, 23, downed his 5-pound burger in 14 minutes, 45 seconds. Pat said five minutes later, the guy was chomping down on a big piece of chocolate cake. Pat said the 123-pound burger, after people gawked at it for a few days, was turned into dog food.
