The Star Telegram reports that plans for recording a 10 pound burrito offered by a Fort Worth food truck for an upcoming episode of Outrageous Food have been hindered by a ban on all non-NFL vendors from downtown until the Super Bowl is over.
The Dallas Observer reports that a judge at the Fiery Food Challenge was hospitalized after sampling a hot sauce.
Amarillo.com reports that Erik Ekstrand and Mackan Edlund, stars of Swedish reality television, competed in the team rib eating qualifier at the Big Texan on Tuesday. The pair also appeared on a local television program.
A press release lists several expected entrants in the Wingstop wing eating contest in Dallas February 1: Joey Chestnut, Pat Bertoletti, Sonya Thomas & Bob Shoudt.
DallasNews.com has a few details about the Wingstop eating contest. The contest will be 12 minutes long and take place at 6pm central before a Dallas Stars hockey game. Joey Chestnut is expected to compete, no other expected entrants are listed. (Dave Solomon reported he received a slot today.)
The Austin Lyric Opera will hold a spaghetti eating contest on January 26 to promote its production of The Italian Girl in Algiers. The winner will receive $100, tickets to the performance, a backstage tour, seats to dress rehearsal, a Cannoli Joe’s gift certificate, and an Italian Trio Prize basket from Twin Liquors.
Patrick Michels wrote a blog entry for the Dallas Observer about the Wingstop wing eating contest containing a quote from George Shea attributing the discrepancy between total contest purses and claimed total compensation to competitors to endorsements and appearance fees.
The MLE facebook announces that Wingstop will hold a wing eating contest in Dallas on February 1. Registration opens tomorrow and the contest purse is $10,000. update Registration will open at 2pm eastern.

Female competitive eaters on Outrageous Food
In a December episode of Outrageous Food Stephanie Torres faced off against four men in an Extreme Grizzly (7 pound) burrito eating contest at Marianito’s in San Antonio. A clip of her segment has been uploaded:

In last night’s episode, Jessica “Queen of Cuisine” was part of a group of women that attempted to eat a single Dog Pounder burger at Lumpy’s Diner in Antioch, CA (She has finished the burger without help) The results of the team challenge was not televised. Stephanie Wu’s name could also be read on the plaque listing the finishers of the “Initimidator” omelet.
Information about the team rib eating contest to be held at the Big Texan in Amarillo, Texas has been posted on Amarillo.com. Qualifiers will be held on Tuesdays in January and February and the finals will take place on March 8. Teams will have four members and the registration fee is $100. The first prize is $1000 and the runner-up team will receive $400. Amarillo.com has an article about the contest.

BigTexan.com announces the Amarillo, Texas restaurant will hold a team rib eating contest with a $1,000 first prize. More information about the contest will be revealed on December 28.

Bodega Coast in College Station, Texas will hold a taco eating contest on Saturday awarding $750 ($500 to the winner).
Tonight's episode of Meat & Potatoes (10 pm eastern) on the Food Network will feature the 10 pound chicken fried steak meal at the Cowtown Diner in Fort Worth, an 8 pound burrito at Amigo's in Kansas City, and a 5 pound burger from Giant Burger in Springfield, Oregon.

In a seven-part article for the Dallas Observer, Patrick Michels uses Nathan Biller’s career as a starting point to explore the history of the IFOCE/MLE and competitive eating in general. While quite thorough, the article does not mention the cancellation of the Krystal Square Off or the admission by Mortimer Matz, Nathan’s promoter in the 1970’s, that the 1916 “origin story” of the Coney Island contest was a fabrication.
