PETA allies request warning for Fifth Third Burger

WZZM13 reports that the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine has requested that the Fifth Third burger not be sold to anyone under 18 and have the following warning label:

WARNING – Eating meat is associated with increased risk of heart disease, cancer, and death

The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine advocates a vegan diet along with a ban on animal testing and has received $1.3 million dollars from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals according to a 2004 Guardian article which states that 95% of PCRM members do not have a medical degree.

that the burger will appear on ESPN’s First Take on April 7.

The T shirt awarded to finishers can be purchased on the West Michigan Whitecaps website.

A list of polls to choose the top eating challenges for various types of foods follows after the jump. The winners of the polls will face off in a poll to choose the overall top eating challenge.

You can use whatever criteria you like (fame, history, food quality, uniqueness, etc.) in voting for the top challenges. Additional challenges will be added to the poll choices if requested.

ESPN Krispy Kreme Challenge videos

A segment about the Krispy Kreme Challenge race held at North Carolina State was broadcast on ESPN Sportcenter yesterday. Raw footage of Greg Garber competing and doing the “Kobayashi shake” is also available.

Sugawara repeats as Gluttonous Queen

R Suzuki has a writeups of today’s Gluttonous Queen program on her blog. Hatsuyo “The Witch Sugawara” repeated as champion. Natsuko “Gal” Sone was fifth. The final rounds were held in Australia after taking place in Hawaii in previous years.

Kobayashi wins Chinese contest

ChinaNews reports Takeru Kobayashi won the contest held in Suzhou, China by eating 164 pieces of salmon sushi in 20 minutes. Kobayashi says in his blog this is the first time he has done contests on consecutive days since the US Open of Competitive Eating. (Pictures from yesterday’s semifinal)

Mega Meal Madness 2009

To have a “March Madness” themed tournament, I have set up a series of polls for 64 eating challenges in the United States. The first round will match up challenges based on food types and the second round will have the winners of the first round polls. You can use whatever criteria you like (fame, history, food quality, uniqueness, etc.) to choose the top eating challenges.

A listing of the “brackets” follows after the jump. Please list any challenges in the comments that you think should be added. To be included, challenges must award prizes to finishers or at least maintain a “Wall of Fame” or challenge record. First round voting will start on Friday or Saturday.
