Nando's in Vancouver, Canada will hold a wing eating contest. Four Saturday qualifiers will start on July 24 and the finals on August 28 will award a $500 catering order.
Island Sports News has a blog entry about a bacon eating contest in Victoria, British Columbia between a 230 pound man and a 73 pound woman.
The “eating power” of native British Columbians
There might have been some historical basis to have competitive eating as a demonstration sport in the Vancouver Olympics. TheTyee.ca has an article from 2004 about the “tsatlsqulalitut” or eating power of the Salish tribe of coastal British Columbia and Washington State:
Powers played an important role in Coast Salish culture. There were many kinds, including, but not limited to, the powers of a shaman, and any adult ought to have one or more. A person with eating power ate normally most of the time. But when challenged or challenging, the same person would eat vast quantities of food without showing the slightest sign of discomfort.
The article retells a story of an old man who ate two sides of beef and washed it down with a barrel of water.
A hot dog eating contest in Prince George, British Columbia tomorrow will award $500 to the winner ($250 to the runner up)
Straight.com reports that Pink Pearl Chinese Restaurant in Vancover, BC will host a spring roll qualifier on Sunday. The finals will be held in August and award $300.

Ken Wong wins Vancouver Nathan’s contest
The Vancouver Sun has a video of Ken “The Demolisher” Wong winning the Nathan’s hot dog eating contest held at a Vancouver Canadians baseball game last night. Kobayashi’s latest blog entry reports that he is currently in Vancouver, British Columbia, apparently to film a commercial for an undisclosed product. Like Kobayashi’s hometown of Nagano, Vancouver is a Winter Olympics site.

Gal Sone goes octopus hunting in Canada
R Suzuki reports that Gal Sone traveled to the west coast of Canada and went on an octopus hunt around Vancouver Island on a Nippon TV program. After a diver caught an octopus, it was cooked and served to Gal Sone in a restaurant.
