The Daily Meal has an obituary for Holly Moore. He helped develop the Big Mac for McDonald's, then worked for Burger King and held a "Hamburger Bowl" in 1974 in Manhattan between members of the New York Giants & Jets to promote the Whopper. Comedian Andy Kaufman refereed that event.
MLE upcoming contests as of August 2, 2017
Here are the upcoming contests on the MLE contest calendar. A kale eating contest in Hamburg, NY on August 13 and a Nathan’s qualifier in Nashville on October 10 have been recently added. A new taco eating contest in Tower, MN on November 4 will also be held. Registration is open unless specified otherwise.

All Pro Eating will hold The Caribbean Food Delights and Royal Caribbean Bakery National Caribbean Food Eating Championships in Hecksher State Park in East Islip NY on August 13. Both contests will award $400/$200/$100
A corn eating contest will be held August 5 in Utica, NY awarding $1000 to the winner.
Joey Chestnut, Matt Stonie, Carmen Cincotti, Gideon Oji and Geoff Esper are expected to compete in the World Chicken Spiedie Eating Championship at Tioga Downs in Nichols, NY on August 12.
Wayne Algenio announces that he won yesterday's clam eating contest at Peter's Clam Bar in Island Park, NY. Itiel Ginzburg was the runner-up. Takeru Kobayashi and Ed "Cookie" Jarvis did a one minute contest during the event.

The reboot for Man v Food hosted by Casey Webb will debut on August 7. The initial episode will feature New York City restaurants and the challenge site will be the Lunchbox in Staten Island. Other cities visited in the series include Milwaukee, Chicago, Houston, Billings, MT, Charleston, SC, Sleepy Hollow, NY, New Orleans, Portland, OR & Des Moines.
