WGRZ.com has a short article about Naader Reda eating 9.5 pounds of pumpkin pie in 30 minutes in Clarence, NY, which was billed as a record. Naader will compete in the World Hands Free Pumpkin Pie Eating Championship tomorrow along with Jamie McDonald, Stephanie Torres, Mike Longo and reportedly "Furious" Pete Czerwinski in his first AICE/APE contest since AICE tried to introduce contracts in 2009.

1998 World Trade Center qualifier clips in Footlong documentary

Footlong is a documentary (full movie) about “the social impact of the hot dog on American Culture” that opens with coverage of the 1998 Nathan’s finals (Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3) including interviews with George Shea, Gersh Kuntzman, Ed Krachie, Guardian Angels founder Curtis Sliwa and defending champion Hirofumi Nakajima along with brief snippets of the 1998 Nathan’s qualifier held in Windows on the World on top of the World Trade Center.

Bay Burger in Sag Harbor, NY will hold a lobster roll eating contest on Sunday awarding $250 ($50 registration fee).
Registration for the cannoli eating contest at the San Gennaro Festival in Manhattan on September 14 (or September 13 according to the festival website) will open on Monday. update Sept 10 Registration will apparently open at 4pm eastern today. The date is still listed as both September 13 and September 14. update Sept 11 Registration is now open.
Registration for the Chef One Dumpling Eating Contest at Smorgasburg in Brooklyn on September 15 closes today. As in previous years, the contest will pay out $1000/$500/$300 to the top 3 men and women. A contest will award $100 to a person who guesses the total for the male or female winner correctly.

The Daily Mail asks if Sonya Thomas has lost her bite

update 7:53 The Buffalo News reports that Sonya Thomas was the runner up with 6.36 lb. Joey Chestnut’s poundage was 7.61. With Mike Landrich’s comment below and Brian Subich’s claim he was 5th & Badland Booker was 6th, the top 5 is:

update 6:04 Sonya Thomas and Juliet Lee apparently both finished in the top 3 according to the Wingfest twitter, but does not list their order. I have not seen any other placings besides the winner.

update The festival twitter announces Joey Chestnut won with a record total of 191 wings. This breaks Sonya Thomas’ five year winning streak at the contest.

The contest page on the festival website has not been updated with the 2012 field; it still lists last year’s competitors.
