Jamie McDonald will be the professional competitor in El AL Isreal Airlines Hamantaschen Eating Championship on February 24 in New York City. The amateur winner will receive a round trip ticket to Israel, (2 if he or she defeats Jamie).

Kevin Youkilis, formerly of the Red Sox and White Sox, signed a one year contract with the New York Yankees after he appeared in a 2009 episode (starts at 6:17 mark) of Man v. Food recorded at Eagle's Deli in Brighton, MA where Adam Richman was taunted with the chant "Yankees Suck". Youkilis responded to the heckling by saying "Now he knows how I feel when I go to New York City." (via NESN)
Grub Street announces that California-based Fatburger will return to New York City in the spring of 2013. The restaurant will offer a 24 ounce burger according to Gothamist.
The Brooklyn Daily reports that the original Coney Island Nathan's Famous will not reopen until Spring 2013 after sustaining significant damage from Hurricane Sandy and that the July 4, 2013 hot dog eating contest is still on.

The facebook for Nathan's Famous announces that its original location on Coney Island, site of the annual hot dog eating contest on July 4, suffered severe water damage during Hurricane Sandy and the reopening date is unknown. Nathan's is donating 50,000 hot dogs to the New York City Food Bank.
Thuzio.com is offering lunch or dinner with Takeru Kobayashi for $1,500. The fee does not apparently include a competitive eating exhibition and possible sites for the meal are three New York City restaurants: Plein Sud in TriBeCa, Home Restaurant or Palma.

Fortunately rumors that Coney Island Hospital was on fire turned out to be untrue.
