Philly Mag has an obituary for Abner Silver, owner of Jim's Steaks in Philadelphia, who passed away earlier this month. The restaurant maintains a cheesesteak eating record (Pat Bertoletti is the current holder) which was started when Lynda Kuerth won a 1977 competition. The University of Pennsylvania student newspaper has a report on that event (on page 15).
Kevin "Quasy" Ambs won the sandwich eating contest yesterday at the Bologna Fest in Lebanon, PA. Jack Diamond was the runner up.

Philadelphia Magazine's column titled "Wing Bowl: Is It Time to End It?" is now available online. Richard Rys makes a comparison with Ray Rice assaulting his fiancee with the treatment of women at the Wing Bowl. He does not mention Molly Schuyler by name but describes the defending champion as "very intimidating".
Joe Menchetti took first place in tonight's Wing Off at the Sugar House Casino in Philadelphia to win a spot in Wing Bowl 23 and $500. The "Mystical Magi" thinks the contest was rigged.

The big Wing Bowl news appears to be that WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley is participate in Wing Bowl 23. Foley competed in the past two fruitcake eating contests in Santa Claus, IN and was penalized for cheating from both competitions. A limited number of Wing Bowl tickets will go on sale today at 9 AM.
The Lebanon Bologna Fest & Winter Carnival will hold a bologna sandwich eating contest on January 24 awarding $250 to the winner.
